Head of Planning

Job Description

As the Head of Planning, you will lead the planning function nationally, taking accountability for company planning standards and associated controls to enable consistent delivery across all regions.  

What are my responsibilities?
  • Business planning support to national operations and attendance of monthly meetings
  • Ownership and management of the National Resource tool and data analysis
  • Functional line management of the planning managers within RA, developing both the planning leadership team and the individual’s skills and capabilities in order to provide the best possible planning service to the wider business
  • Support the recruitment, performance management, training, mentorship and succession planning for all Planners in the business
  • Ensure that all project plans are developed and maintained in accordance with Siemens Rail Automation UK project management, planning and PM@Siemens procedures and processes
  • Be the planning and controls subject matter expert and ensure consistent application of standards and procedures, including templates and guidance and support across the business
  • Work closely and offer support to the other national functional leads
  • Ownership and management of all planning tools such Primavera, Fuse and Primavera Risk including software licensing and training
  • Line management of the Primavera Administrator and Resources co-ordinator
What do I need to qualify for this role?
  • Degree qualified or equivalent with typically significant experience within a Planning & Project Controls leadership role (essential)
  • Proven delivery experience on large & complex rail signaling projects (essential)
  • Strong site based planning experience gained with a tier one main contractor (essential)
  • Sound understanding of integrating rail infrastructure projects (essential)
  • Experience of delivering projects over £100m is desirable or a national portfolio of projects (essential)
  • Experience of managing resource a national resources tool (essential)
  • Self-motivated with sound interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with an assertive style of behavior (essential)
  • Practiced analytical and problem solving skills (essential)
  • Confident and able to deal externally and internally at senior levels (essential)
  • Ability to operate effectively within a team environment (essential)
  • Experience of working in a matrix working environment (essential)
  • Technical expert / advanced user of planning tools such as Primavera, Microsoft Project and Fuse (essential)
  • Strong computing skills in MS excel, project, Outlook, etc (essential)
