Siemens Healthineers offers a four-year Apprenticeship Scheme which will give you the knowledge, qualifications and confidence you need to build a successful career. The position will involve dedicated training on your journey to becoming a skilled Customer IT Specialist in the Healthcare industry with excellent IT diagnostic knowledge. The successful candidate will join our field-based engineering team of approximately 15 engineers and will be ultimately responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of our medical IT systems.  You will provide vital technical service support to our customers working very closely with the factory technical escalation staff; sales and applications support teams as well as our Customer Care Centre.

You will work at hospital sites throughout the UK, initially focusing on customer sites within the Birmingham area. However, you will be expected to travel to other Siemens Customer sites to help support your qualification and development.

As this is a Field IT service role, all travelling, and accommodation expenses incurred whilst carrying out duties will be reimbursed. The successful applicant will also have a company car allocated to them.

Your future prospects

On completion of the Level 3 apprenticeship and subject to a good training record, you will progress onto the Level 4 apprenticeship programme. This offering will support an individual apprentice for a total of 4 years within this Siemens Healthineers team. Following successful completion of both apprenticeships you will be offered a full-time position alongside further opportunity of career development and product training. You the apprentice will also be rewarded for your efforts by way of incremental pay increases aligned to KPIs and progression through your initial job role.

Location

The successful apprentices will be around the Birmingham area. The apprentice role is a field-based position and will require travel to customer sites nationally. In addition, and as part of their development programme, the apprentice will be required to attend other Siemens manufacturing sites across the Country on temporary short-term assignments as well as visit the Siemens Healthineers Customer Care Centre in Frimley, Surrey. In addition, travel abroad to the Siemens Training Centres in Germany will be required. Furthermore, any training events we require you to attend will be incorporated you’re your 4-year apprenticeship programme.

Apprenticeship Delivery

The advanced and higher apprenticeship programmes, will see the apprentice embarking on a learning journey, consisting of both employer-site development coaching support and a blended training delivery of both eLearning and classroom sessions.

·       Level 3 IT Solution Technician Year 1 to 20 Months

Within this programme delivery, apprentices will also have the opportunity to embark on an element of experiential learning in order to help them build confidence and develop their own interpersonal skills outside of the normal working environment. The Siemens Training Centre visits will be incorporated, alongside the opportunity to gain IT/Vendor professional certifications. This A Level equivalent programme will allow the apprentice to build confidence and fundamental foundational knowledge in order to fulfil the initial job role requirement.

·       Level 4 Network Engineer Month 21 to Year 4

This programme delivery will further advance the skills, knowledge and professional capability of the apprentice. Providing further technical development in the areas of Networking, alongside the ability to work on more complex projects within the organisation’s client IT infrastructure. The Siemens Training Centre visits will be incorporated, alongside the opportunity to gain enhanced IT/Vendor professional certifications. This HNC programme will allow the apprentice to progress to full time employment within the organisation.

There will be opportunities to work for short time frames in the Siemens Healthineers Customer Care Centre in Frimley, Surrey, other Siemens manufacturing sites and our Healthcare training facilities in Erlangen, Germany. There are also progression routes from this apprenticeship onto higher technical certificates and official Siemens Engineer training qualifications.

Whilst upon application it is not essential to possess a driving licence, it is however a requirement of the job role. Therefore, Siemens will provide a £500 fund to cover driving lessons, Theory test and Practical test fees. The expectation will be a full licence pass within the first 9 months of the apprenticeship.

Skills Required

·       You will possess excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills to enable you to work within a team focused environment.

·       You must demonstrate attention to detail as the role requires the diagnosis and repair of complex IT systems problems on high technology medical product with a need to fix the problem first time.

·       An interest in IT infrastructure is desirable.

·       Good level of computer literacy is desirable.

·       You should be able to demonstrate your interest in activities outside your school life e.g. Duke of Edinburgh, Scouts, Guides, Sports team etc.

Personal Qualities

The role of the Field IT Support Specialist requires a balance of technical and personal skills.  Today’s customers require understanding and empathy with their problems, so the successful candidates will be required to effectively communicate with our customers and colleagues with a ‘can do attitude’. You must be keen to learn and have an inquiring mind and be able to demonstrate your enthusiasm for your work and our business. A self-disciplined approach to your studies will be required as well as to your timekeeping and attendance in the workplace.

Qualifications Required

You should have at least four GCSEs at Grade C (4) or above, this must include English Language and Science. Maths is also required at a Grade of B (5-6) or higher. Please ensure that you list in your application if your qualifications are already obtained or predicted. You will also be required as part of the apprenticeship to attain Level 2 Functional Skills in both English and Maths. GCSE Grades C (4) in these subjects will be accepted as an exemption to this requirement upon submission of certificate copies.

You’ll need to be available to begin this apprenticeship in September 2020.
