Corporate Technology Portfolio Project Manager of Edge Computing

Job Description


The distributed computing team at Siemens Corporate Technology at Beijing is dedicated to developing future proof technologies to solve emerging challenges across IoT and AI, targeting applications ranging from smart manufacturing to smart city. One of the core competences we are building is edge computing, IoT application development, which enables better utilization of massive IoT resources and helps deliver real time services.

We are now seeking a Portfolio Project Manager in the area of edge computing and IoT application.



The Portfolio (Project) Manager is responsible for the development (business and  technology) of a significant RG portfolio element  through customer, funded and own research projects and therefore contributes to RG strategy and portfolio management.

He/she supports the transfer of R&D results into offers to strategically suitable Siemens units. He/she ensures knowledge transfer within his relevant technology domain as part of the RG.

Strategy and management

Strategic positioning and planning (mid/ long term) of respective technology portfolio element as part of RG incl. support in RG portfolio management and also new topics in close cooperation with RG Head.
-Acquisition and utilization of knowledge concerning the internal and external trends in the represented technology domain of the RG as well as potential impact in the market and relevant competitors in order to define the innovation roadmap for the portfolio element.
-Drive and facilitate the decision process of the innovation roadmap.
-Keep the implementation of the roadmap on track by leading project acquisition activities for portfolio element in alignment with RG Head, providing transparency and guidance on all activities (projects) regarding portfolio element.
-Controlling and review of projects within respective portfolio element and therefore contributing to the overall financial controlling of the respective RG.
-Initiate, motivate, drive patents / standardization aspects for the relevant portfolio element


Steering of employees / mgmt. Team

-Technical leadership / coaching of assigned Research Group staff; supporting Performance Management Process (RG Head in lead) for employees who have major contributions to portfolio element
-Assignment of staff and required competencies to projects (capacity planning) aligned with RG Head.
-Coordination of  projects and project managers for relevant portfolio element. Ensuring knowledge transfer across projects - organizing the know how transfer on portfolio element to all persons involved in activities connected to the portfolio element.
-Management of projects as Project Manager.


  • Deep knowledge in own technology domain within relevant research group
    Knowledge of Siemens relevant markets related to research group (e.g. competitors, customer requirements);

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in various development functions;

  • Experience in research & development projects (e.g. software and hardware);

  • Experience in collaboration with international team;

  • Solid knowledge of the theoretical foundation in a technical field or method with a focus on growing practical experiences;

  • Customer awareness and business understanding;

  • Important impact on team results and value added;

  • Improves processes or technical components.
