Job Title:                                          Scientist (Assay Development)

Job Location: Berkeley, CA


The successful candidate for this position working within Siemens Healthcare Laboratory (SHL) R&D will report to a Staff Scientist or higher in the department.

This scientist will be responsible for design, optimization, and performance verification of new assays or technologies, and documentation and transfer of assays to either the clinical laboratory for validation as a Laboratory Developed Tests (LDT) or to other units of Siemens Diagnostics for development as In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) kits.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

This position is for a non-entry level scientist with diagnostics industry and/or clinical laboratory experience.

Expertise in assay development, control system design, and assay transfer are highly valued.

Practical experience in immunoassay prototyping and optimization are particularly relevant. Knowledge of IVD quality processes and documentation in a regulated healthcare environment is desirable.

The successful candidate will also have clear and understandable written and verbal technical communication.

B.S. or advanced degree in molecular biology, chemistry, or related discipline is required.

3 to 5 years experience is also required. An advanced degree with post-doctoral work may substitute for a portion of required working experience in the IVD or clinical laboratory industry.

Approximately 5% travel may be required, when travel becomes possible.
