Position Title: R&D Mechanical Engineer II – System Integration

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer II will be part of the product development team, responsible for the successful design development, and testing of the next generation robotic platform that will change the future of healthcare. You will be a technical resource, having responsibilities throughout the product development lifecycle, such as ideation, design, analysis, prototyping, verification, validation, documentation, and manufacturing transfer. You have a strong working knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles and machine design preferably in medical devices. You have demonstrated experience in design of subsystems, fixtures, performing characterization, verification, and reliability testing. You must be proficient with the current development tools and practices. You possess analytical skills in mechanical domain (such as statics, dynamics, or kinematics). This is a collaborative opportunity where the individual works with and supports other engineers and functions as needed. Ideal candidate has contributed in design and development of complex electro-mechanical medical devices, including design, development of subsystems, and parts, test fixtures, and performing verification tests and documentation.     

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead hardware integration, evaluation and characterization of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Contributes to development of bill of materials, procurement, inspection, and assembly.
  • Collaborates in design, and development of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems or sub-systems.

·       Applies analytical and problem-solving methodologies aimed at guaranteed-by-design implementation.

  • Assists in planning and authoring of testing protocols, design test fixtures, conduct testing, and documentation.
  • Utilizes novel software tools to refine complex mechanical or electromechanical designs.
  • Some project management responsibilities which may include vendor and supplier management, developing and maintaining project schedules and budgets.

Qualifications:

  • BSc. degree in Mechanical Engineering required, MSc. Highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Mechanical SolidWorks, and the simulation tools required
  • 3+ yrs experience in the product development (mechanical design) role required, preferably in medical device industry
  • Machine design experience in precision moving parts and complex mechanisms and assemblies highly preferred
  • Experience in the design and analyses of robotic systems highly desired
  • Strong analytical skills in mechanical domain (such as statics, dynamics, or kinematics) required
  • Proficiency in software tools such as: FEA, Enventive (or other tolerance analysis tools), MATLAB, Simulink/Simscape, or LabVIEW required
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Ability to travel up to 10% required
