Our Rolling Stock Division  product offerings include light rail vehicles, electric and diesel-electric locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trains.  Our core manufacturing processes include extensive carshell welding activities, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly. Due to growth, we are adding a Manufacturing Engineer to the beautiful and affordable Sacramento
As a Manufacturing Engineer your primary role will be to support and drive improvement projects focused on safety, schedule, and budget adherence through the use of best practice manufacturing principles both on the production floor and during the production planning phases. You will collaborate and partner with the production core team members, you will lead the team in technical problem solving for topics including standard and non-standard work, tooling and fixturing, safety, engineering drawings/BOMs, and process improvements. 
What you will be doing:
Reviewing engineering drawings, 3D engineering models using Pro-E or PTC Creo to gain an understanding of manufacturing process requirements such as job sequence, technical challenges, and tooling requirements.

Defining key production work steps and required build sequences to ensure ease of assembly through a wide range of various processes and work environments.

Prepare critical equipment, tooling, and infrastructure to support continuously changing production challenges and opportunities.

Design, procure, and validate fixtures, tools, and shop aides including (lifting equipment, templates, calibrated tooling, and safety devices)

Preparing Standardized work instructions for special equipment, technically challenging processes, and critical installations.

Train and support production team on proper methods of assembly and propose improvements to build processes.

Development of detailed specifications for jigs and fixtures for manufacturing processes using takt time, capacity calculations, engineering product design, and sourcing jigs and fixtures from vendors.

Leading manufacturing improvements, complex process changes, and technology changes including process development, training, and implementation. 

Providing critical process control guidance to production, maintenance, and quality control to improve the dimensional accuracy and overall quality of our products.

Coordinating and communicating technical information to and from all levels of the organization including vendors, project managers, production team members, and operations managers.

What you will need to be successful
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering (Or Equivalent Experience)
 3 Years’ Experience in a manufacturing environment

Firm engineering and design skills with demonstrated understanding of tooling and fixtures design for manufacturing.

A history of “hands-on” approach to problem solving and countermeasure implementation within own areas of responsibility.

Strong background in Pro-E, PTC Creo, Solidworks or Equivalent 3D CAD modeling software.

Experience using different types of bills of materials between engineering and production.

A history of driving projects in a very dynamic low volume start up production environment.

We would be impresses if you had:
5 + years of experience planning and supporting launch of new production lines in a low speed production environment (e.g. rail, aviation/aerospace, naval, heavy equipment, etc.).vehicle production in assembly processes (e.g. rail, aviation, naval, heavy equipment).

Work experience in the rail business, preferably in light rail, heavy rail, or related production field of heavy equipment. 

Knowledge of SAP or similar MRP / ERP systems is highly desired.

One or more certification (or equivalent coursework) in the following fields- Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification, OSHA Safety, Certified Manufacturing engineer, Supply Management, EIT, or Professional Engineering License

Practical experience in Customer Service / Maintenance / After Market businesses and technologies within the rail industry a large plus.

Practical experience training others on Engineering topics including Bill of materials, Engineering drawings, equipment and tooling usage and maintenance, and safety.

Background in the design, development, and procurement of engineering solutions for heavy equipment handling, lifting devices, fixturing, templates, and assembly tooling.
