Job Description

An opportunity exists within our manufacturing Procurement team for a buyer to play a key role in our Manufacturing Operations. The successful applicant will continually seek to improve efficiency through the development of best practice procurement techniques.

What are my responsibilities?
  • Successful development and implementation of lean supply techniques throughout the supply chain
  • JIT delivery of components to meet the production plan, ensuring zero linestops and minimum stock holding
  • Supplier selection and negotiation to ensure on time supply of components for the manufacturing area, against cost down targets
  • Rationalise the supply base and manage supplier relationships to ensure code of conduct and contract compliance and achieve strengthened purchasing relationships with suppliers
  • Collaborate with and influence the central purchasing council, commodity managers and category managers
  • Analysis of and in-depth understanding of supplier capability
  • Active and significant participation in multi-disciplined teams for the introduction of new products into manufacturing
  • Ability to facilitate/conduct supplier audits
  • Provide supply chain solutions for electronics component allocation and obsolescence
What do I need to qualify for this role?
  • Experience in a procurement role, preferably for a high mix low volume manufacturing business (essential)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (essential)
  • Ability to negotiate and influence to build supplier partnerships (essential)
  • Commercial awareness with a sense of organisational sensitivity (essential)
  • Fluent communications skills, both verbal and written, along with excellent interpersonal skills (essential)
  • Strong attention to detail (essential)
  • Ability to introduce improvements and cost reductions (essential)
  • Highly numerate and PC literate (essential)
  • Expert user of an ERP system, (ideally SAP), and Microsoft excel (essential)
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of electronics obsolescence management
  • CIPS qualified/part qualified
  • HND/Degree or equivalent in a relevant qualification, e.g. Business Studies, Engineering
  • Innovative
  • Knowledge of sales, design and engineering processes
