Deputy Engineering Project Manager

Job Description

The job title is “Deputy Engineering Project Manager” responsible for the design and engineering of Light Rail projects reporting to the Director of Engineering or who owns the complete life cycle of all Light Rail Engineering. The main objective of this role is to support the engineering of a customized version of the Light Rail vehicle capitalizing on the platform design with the integration of the required customer requirements.


Support the Engineering Project Manager to lead a team of engineers creating the product deliverables as well as supporting procurement, manufacturing, testing and warranty.
Assist in specifying the requirements and liaise across departments providing clarity and so forth.
Assist the Systems Integration of the complete product including the respective customer requirements, compilation of the BOM’s and Technical Specifications.
Support the technical representative and lead in customer design reviews.
Involved with/assisting in creating the WBS’s, assigning and managing resources and helping to ensure that the scheduled release dates are met.
Support and assist the preparation assigned engineering estimates for customer change orders during project execution.
Assist in managing the budgets and reporting on deliverable and financial status once per month.
Support the procurement, manufacturing, testing and warranty cycles.
Support technical bids and take the lead on specific bids or aspects of the bids defining the vehicle baseline and supporting the compilation of the complete technical proposal. You will identify risks and non-compliances and work with the organization and the customer to mitigate the risks.
Support the complete manufacturing cycle of the products and the production engineering efforts to ensure that all ECO’s are created and released into the system for the ‘as-built’ condition.
Support the FAI’s, testing and commissioning of the projects you support.

The following knowledge/skills and experience is required to be considered for this position:

BSc degree in Engineering or related discipline, or advanced degree.
Rolling Stock experience, a minimum of 3 years; preferably in rail vehicle design.
Work experience of 5 years as a minimum.
Knowledge of the Siemens Light Rail platforms design in Engineering.
Experience working with Pro-Engineer (Creo), PDMLink, SAP, and related workflows.
Experience integrating new sub-systems into the Light Rail vehicle platforms.
