Software Development Team Lead – Enforcement R&D

Our team and what we do:

Our products and services touch many aspects of everyday mobility including the future of Clean Air Zones, Speed and Bus Lane Enforcement, and Congestion Charging.  If you drove or took public transport today, you almost certainly interacted with what we do every day to keep our roads safe and running freely.

The developers in our R&D team are responsible for the creation of innovative mobility solutions in the United Kingdom and Worldwide, working independently and as part of larger teams.  The systems deployed typically utilise core sub-systems and products from the Traffic Solutions product portfolio with configuration and project specific developments.

The Software Development Team Lead will be responsible for leading the Enforcement Software Team, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the team, resource management and utilisation, sprint planning and progress reporting.  Working together with the Software Architect, you will ensure that our software products are developed on time and to budget with the required quality to ensure success for the enforcement business.  You will be bringing your experience of supporting technical teams in solving complex problems delivering Java solutions to an AWS cloud hosted platform.

  • You are an experienced team lead confident in managing technical teams and have some coding experience
  • You are comfortable working in fully agile teams developing microservices deployed to an AWS cloud.
  • You should be working with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • You see team impediments as a challenge and show tenacity to overcome these and unblock the team. 
  • You can demonstrate experience of successfully delivering projects within time, quality and budget constraints.
  • You are an effective communicator able to describe technical solutions to all stakeholders to achieve the desired result, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • You will produce sprint metrics to the team and Stakeholders.
  • You will collaborate with the Stakeholders and Product Owners to ensure successful delivery of our projects.

In your role, what can you expect?

You will work as a facilitator for the Enforcement R&D team working under the scrum methodology. Serving as a person responsible for understanding the big development picture of each sprint. You will be responsible for delegating tasks appropriately and ensuring the team is working on the right tasks at the right time. You will ensure the team is fully deployed and utilised in the best possible way. The role involves working closely with the Software Architect (Product Owner) to translate epics, stories, and other items on the sprint list into actionable tasks for developers.

You will take line management responsibility for the team and act as an enabler to achieve delivery on time and on budget.

Candidates should hold a BSc in a related STEM discipline or be able to demonstrate experience in a similar professional role.
