In the last years open-source technologies are entering more and more in manufacturing facilities. However, to ensure interoperability across unstructured environments several pain points need still to be addressed. One of those is the allocation of software packages to the right hardware infrastructure. Therefore, we offer you the opportunity to tackle this challenge in the sphere of a master thesis. The scope of the thesis will be to develop and benchmark a software allocator for virtualized packages considering the requirements of the software and the capabilities of the devices.

  • Be part of the research team and work on a concept for allocation of resources to devices

  • Testing and benchmarking of the concept to test their accuracy

  • Integration of the designs into a real robot workcell

  • Conduct user studies for evaluating acceptance of the designed architecture

What you need to make real what matters.

  • You are a master student of computer science, informatics, robotics, or a similar field of study.

  • In-depth Knowledge of the Robot Operating System (ROS) is required

  • In-depth knowledge of the Linux operating system, Docker Containers, Virtualization and Software Architectures is required.

  • Furthermore, you are experienced with semantic reasoning and artificial intelligence with natural language processing.

  • Ideally, you have experience with UR robots.

  • Personally, you impress us with a high level of initiative, analytical thinking as well as a structured and independent way of working.

  • Since our team operates globally, you have a very good command of written and spoken German and English.
