Project Manager

Job Description

The Project Manager leads Category C projects with the aim of completing customer projects on schedule, within the budget, with the required quality and to the customer's satisfaction, also considering other interested parties (stakeholders). 

To act as a controlling interface between Sales, the customer and other partners. Sub-project planning in Categories A and B. Responsibility for delivery of allocated work packages within specific projects or responsible for leading and directing projects typically under 10m and a small number of sub-contracts.

What are my responsibilities?
  • Ensure allocated work packages or projects are delivered within the technical, legal etc requirements/standards and to the requirements of the allocated project(s) and budget and use the LoA tool for each project
  • Delivery of project(s) to (within) budget and specification, time, cost and quality
  • Supports strategic viewpoints when managing the financial aspects of a project
  • Staff Management Plans necessary personnel resources for the project (qualitative: skills; quantitative: number of staff)
  • Delivery of project(s) to laid down legislation and company standards, such as PM@Siemens, QM@Siemens and LoA
  • Interprets financial project data analogues to project progress, considering demands of US-GAAP develops tax measures and implements them
  • Sets up efficient procedures/processes for project controlling and reporting that always enable an up-to-date overview of the project
  • Proposal Management - Develops the overall concept for the proposal, prepares the planning and tender costing according to valid guidelines. Identifies the necessary resources for preparing the proposal (incl. suitable and qualified partners/sub-contractors) and ensures their availability
  • Contract Management - Knows the customer's business and operations and considers them in any recommendations. Ensure customer satisfaction, constantly seeking out and responding to customer feedback
  • Responsibility for Results - ensures that the project runs to budget, profit and the required margin. Is aware of and in control of these figures at all times, and informs/updates other stakeholders on a regular basis
  • Holds regular project reviews with required stakeholders
  • Optimal use of resources (personnel and equipment/materials)
  • Building a success-orientated project team
  • Is involved in Lessons Learnt Workshops at project closure
  • Continuous improvement of the job and activities in line with Siemens values
Health, Safety & Environmental responsibilities 
  • Set and lead the right behaviours to support creating a robust H&S culture
  • Set an example by their own actions and activities
  • Set targets and objectives for H&S and environmental for their direct staff, using the HSE tool and  processes on the BMS for managing H&S and environmental objectives
  • Check that directed staff are capable and competent to undertake the tasks allocated to them
  • Allow time for direct employees to complete training on the use of the BMS allowing for effective implementation of the SMO UKI EHS Manuals, Plans, SSOW and other activities to ensure compliance with PCL requirements
  • Communicate and encourage feedback on H &S and environmental issues
  • Undertake appropriate disciplinary action for any breach of H&S following the just culture process
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to determine basic causes, feedback information both up and down the organisation using the SMO reporting system
  • Make available appropiate H&S equipment to employees
  • Undertake H&S tours or inspections; take action where deficiencies are observed 
  • When unable to rectify or remedy unsafe situations either stop work if the risk is too high and/or report the deficiency (and involve HSE) to the Project Manager for action 
  • Promote and use the business procedures to control and manage work 
  • Understand the H&S and environment risks involved in any activity they control and ensure any mitigation designated to control that risk are effectively operated/implemented 
  • Be prepared and be competent to manage any for-seen emergency situations 
  • Become involved in any worksafe problem and help resolve that problem 
  • Maintain their competence to manage their own H&S and environmental responsibilities and contribute to their directs competence to manage their H&S and environmental responsibilities
What do I need to qualify for this job?
  • Ideally candidates will have a electrical engineering background and hold a degree or HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Business or Project Management
  • Has experience of managing projects at a minimum of Project C classification
  • Experience/Knowledge of Project Management tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of Project Management methodologies
  • Track competence relevant to role
  • Experience of leading and managing a project team which may include Siemens staff and sub-contractors, and some experience of project managing or working within a project team may be beneficial but not essential
  • Experience within the rail industry, and an understanding of project implementation, may also be beneficial
  • Ideally is a member of the APM 
  • Is certified as a PM@Siemens Project Manager
  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS Certificate
