Siemens Mobility Limited have an opening for a Test and Commissioning Engineer for our Rail Infrastructure Electrification business.

The Rail Electrification business designs, supplies, installs, tests, and commissions switchgear equipment as well as the SCADA control system alongside other project engineering solutions to rail industry operators and suppliers worldwide. This includes the ASG 25 Air insulated Switchgear, which is designed, manufactured, built & tested in the UK. We have earned a respected reputation in the industry which has developed from our success in delivering to our customers. In addition, we are leading the way within the railway industry in developing the next generation of rail technology such as the Static Var Compensator & Static Frequency Converter, so this is the perfect time to join the business in the development of a new, exciting technology.

Your role, and what you’ll be doing:

The Testing & Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the successful commissioning into service of new electrification equipment. Working closely with Site and Project Managers and third-party workers to ensure an integrated commissioning process is carried out. This will extend to working and collaborating with the client, our external approved suppliers and other third parties as appropriate to produce a homogeneous solution.

What will be my Responsibilities?

  • The successful commissioning into service of new electrification equipment
  • Final quality checks and tests prior to entry into Service.
  • Co-ordinate site activities to ensure timely and efficient execution of the commissioning process
  • Compilation of the Site Commissioning Report and Quality documentation.
  • Return of as installed records to the design department.
  • Interface with Client and Infrastructure Operators to ensure a co-ordinated approach to the commissioning and entry into service process.
  • Ensuring compliance at all times to Siemens Business Management Systems, Safety working policies, standards, procedures and standard practices as well as those applicable to Network Rail or other client infrastructure in all aspects of the commissioning process as required under the CDM regulations.
  • Have a good understanding of HSQE legislation and procedures and follow the same in the approach to commissioning activities.
  • Providing support to the design team that covers cross discipline work streams to provide an integrated solution for the customer
  • Assisting with the development of Tender estimates and documentation for new opportunities
  • Ensuring productive and cost-effective use of technical resources to achieve company targets, margins and profit
  • Identifying resource requirements in a timely manner to meet programme commitments
  • Positively influencing commissioning and construction safety performance and aims for zero accidents
  • Supporting the project commercial process with the Commercial Manager and ensure all design change requests are quantified on site to capture costs.
  • Maintaining effective communications with all project participants to ensure contract delivery
  • Taking an active role in the mentoring of junior /less experienced staff to ensure the developmental needs of both the individual and the business are met

What Skills, Knowledge & Experience do I need?

  • Degree, HND or HNC qualification in a relevant subject field and demonstrable commissioning experience
  • Experience in the installation and commissioning of high voltage equipment, ideally within a Rail environment.
  • Holding a Rail Level A or Level B competence would be advantageous
  • Experience of factory Integration Testing (FIT) and subsequent Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Railway Electrification Infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable AC and DC electrification commissioning experience desirable.
