This position is for a biochemist to work in the Elkhart Protein Development Services group (PDS) Technical Operations/Technical Transfer Team.  This Team is comprised of more experienced scientists who undertake the more complex operations within PDS.

Because of the nature of the position, the successful candidate will need to be able to ask ‘why do we do it this way’ as well as ‘why not try this approach’ and ‘what could go wrong’.  Thinking outside of the box would be desirable, which will require imagination, inquisitiveness and creativity.  Anticipation of problems before they occur would also be useful.

This is a role well suited to an ambitious professional, looking for the next step in their career. As a Biochemist 2, you will be responsible for:

·       Protein purification and labeling reactions

·       Purification of monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins

·       Synthesize and purify chemically modified proteins.

·       Assist with root cause analysis as part of troubleshooting activities as necessary, and implement corrective actions

·       Coordinate and perform data analysis and write internal reports and documentation

·       Assist with preparation of risk assessments and process, material and instrument validation plans/reports.

·       Produce documents that comply with FDA, ISO and internal Regulatory requirements

·       Ability to keep projects on track and meet deadlines.

·       Comply with all internal and external safety and Quality procedures

·       Operate laboratory instrumentation.

Required skills to have for the success of this role

Typical Education: BS/BA or higher degree in chemistry or biochemistry from an ACS-accredited institution.


Typical Job related experience: 6+ years relevant experience, or advanced degree with 3+ years relevant experience.

Specific Knowledge/Skills

·       Proven ability to investigate and solve problems both individually and with a cross-functional team

·       Understanding of FDA, ISO and other regulations with regard to medical device industry preferred

·       Ability to work in a GMP laboratory environment safely and without supervision

·       Protein biochemistry, with an emphasis on structure, purification and labeling

·       Understanding and knowledge of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies and principles of immunodiagnostic technology

·       Knowledge of SAP operations

·       Ability to analyze complex experimental data and effectively communicate results and observations via oral and written reports

·       Excellent written and communication skills

·       Demonstrated ability to work in local and multi-site teams.
