Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager to join our Digital Rail division at Siemens Mobility Limited, Rail Infrastructure and to be part of the flag ship East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP). This involves deploying state of the art European Train Control System technology on the East Coast Mainline, creating the next generation railway.

Your role, and what you’ll be doing:
As the Project Manager, you will manage the Application Readiness and System of Systems teams in Chippenham. You will help guide the planning and lead implementation of projects delivering a technical solution which meets the customers’ needs and complies with industry specifications. This role demands developed communication and interpersonal skills as you will collaborate with teams across the business to understand and deliver solutions to the customer. This includes Products, Services & Engineering teams, Accounting, Planning and supply chain, as well as frequently liaising, influencing, and establishing rapport with our customers.

What are my responsibilities?
System of Systems 
  • Working on a thin client model and liaising with enabling projects, business change and onboard fitments project leads
  • Responsible to develop plan with the Programme team to integrate the milestones activities and dependencies
  • Shall lead the user group forum which include the 3rd party suppliers, clients and internal team
  • Support the Programme with RAID log, manage and provide periodic update to the Programme lead
  • Able to provide progress reports to Programme executive team
  • Due to the complexity of the operating model, need to encompass customer and stakeholder relationship
  • Write integration strategy documents to deploy on the projects
  • Manage the procurement activities for the rig development
Application Readiness
  • Knowledge of product and software development with iterative and incremental approach
  • Working closely with R&D, System engineering and application engineering team
  • Support claim management identifying/driving possible deviations from the contract/agreed standards
  • Create and share best practice and ensure knowledge is distilled and leveraged for other opportunities
  • Responsible to chair change control process, progress meetings and co-ordinate a cross functional team
  • Initiate team working frameworks to improve team productivity
  • Act as a conduit between Application Readiness core and project specific
  • Establishes a highly motivated high performing, success orientated team to meet the project requirements
  • Responsible for the safe delivery of a Major Project to the ‘as sold’ specification meeting the project objectives within the agreed timescales and budget, whilst ensuring that the Company Management System is applied throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor and report project progress and status throughout the project lifecycle ensuring timely and accurate reports are prepared as required. This shall include:
- Project Planning and Earned Value based progress analysis and reporting
- Work Package Status against the Project Programme
- Resource Management
- Risk analysis and management
- Site Setup & Mobilisation
- Proactive Issue Management
- Detailed Financial analysis and control
  • Represent the company at meetings as required with the client, main contractor, project team, and other relevant decision-makers in respect of matters arising on the project
  • Prepare and maintain throughout the project as a live document the Project Management Plan. This will detail the project implementation procedures in line with the Company Management System and the as sold Project Execution strategy.
  • Can understand, consider, and put forward / present a strategic viewpoint when it comes to the finances and delivery of the project
  • Plans strategy for maintaining good relations, communicating, and exchanging information with the customer and other interested parties (stakeholders)
  • Ensure the correct emphasis is placed on HSQE and is always demonstrated by their leadership and behaviour
  • Ensure the HSQE protection and compliance of Siemens operations, activities, and employees. (Ultimately responsible for ensuring that their area of the business meets all its HSQE obligations to all affected parties and for assisting the wider business to meet its HSQE obligations)
  • Ensure the implementation of Quality Assurance throughout the Project Lifecycle through effective implementation of the IRNE Quality Assurance process
  • Accountability for Commercial Management of both Head Contract and Subcontracts
  • Responsible for managing the Contractual Scope of Supply throughout the Project Lifecycle through the implementation of the Change Management Process and the approval of any changes to scope, base lined schedules, and budgets
  • Accountable for commercial and contractual correspondence as well as commercial input into the internal process, including identification and reporting of risks, liabilities, and opportunities
  • Responsible for warranty management ensuring closure of snagging list items, commercial closeout activities and final handover to After Market Support
  • To ensure the project KPI’s are achieved throughout the contract
What do I need to qualify for this role?
  • Project Management or Engineering experience at a similar level
  • Further education qualification, ideally degree qualified
  • Member of or working towards membership of a professional institution
  • Experience in leadership and motivational skills
  • Delivery of projects through the full project life cycle
  • Management and integration of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Development and implementation of innovative project execution strategies
  • Management of Project Control function covering Planning, Estimating, Financial Control and commercial management disciplines
  • Management of company compliance with local Health and Safety statutory obligations
  • Ability to identify, integrate and manage the project stakeholders
  • Commercial aptitude & awareness
  • Good IT skills/ Information Systems, including MS Office applications, and an understanding of Primavera Project software (e.g., P6e)
  • Strong management skills & ability in terms of, written & verbal communication; presentation skills; problem identification, categorisation and solving; people skills; customer management; negotiation skills and change management
