Lead System Integration Engineer_Digital Trackside

Job Description

Due to the exciting mixture of new technologies being introduced into the railway signalling domain, Siemens Mobility’s rail Infrastructure business has a new requirement for a Lead Systems Integration engineer to lead the integration of multiple subsystems and datasets.
This is a technical role which requires the candidate to build wide ranging knowledge of the interface and performance details of each of the sub systems which make up a total signalling and control solution and use this knowledge to support removing complexity from design and to support the planning of phased system integration programmes. This will maximise the cost-effective use of office, offsite, rehearsal and commissioning test opportunities at a whole system level.

The candidate will also take responsibility for the change management of the integrated system baseline, ensuring that the impact of change on one subsystem dataset does not negatively impact on another. 

  • What are my responsibilities?
  • Produce and assist in analysis of system architectures and work with subsystem design teams to understand and minimise overall system complexity
  • Review system interfaces and data maturity, to understand areas of integration risk
  • Develop, co-ordinate and conduct integration testing plans, considering all testing opportunities from office testing to final commissioning
  • Co-ordinate with subsystem engineering teams to ensure data delivery is in line with testing programme and that data baseline changes are reviewed and managed
  • Presenting the System Integration strategies to the customers/project community
  • Act as a primary point of contact for system level troubleshooting, between the subsystems interfacing to technical specialist as required and delivery teams to resolve
  • Lead fixed and project specific teams through the structured delivery of integrated, solutions
  • Ensure mentorship on system integration is provided to other engineers, graduate and trainees
  • Support national activities to develop the business wide approach to System Integration 
What do I need to qualify for this role?
  • Graduate in relevant engineering discipline or other numerate subject, although equivalent experience would also be considered (essential)
  • Previous experience of integrating collections of industrial control subsystems to create larger system of systems (essential)
  • Knowledge of or experience in developing interface specifications (essential)
  • Knowledge of or experience in using a risk-based approach to develop cost effective integration testing strategies (essential)
  • Knowledge of or experience in formal change control and baseline management procedures (essential)
  • Member of the IET, IRSE or other recognised professional body (essential)
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills (essential)
  • Ability to analyse and resolve complex technical problems (essential)
  • Knowledge of or experience in delivering to meet fixed commissioning deadlines (essential)
  • Knowledge of or experience in working to industry quality and safety standards (essential)
  • Willingness to work on-site nationally and/or travel overseas (essential)
  • Railway domain knowledge highly desirable
  • Appropriate technical certification or evidence of competence
  • Knowledge of ETCS Subsystems
