Siemens Mobility are currently recruiting for a Principal Network Architect for our Rail Infrastructure CIS business in Chippenham.

Your role, and what you’ll be doing:

The Principal Network Architect is responsible for the development of network architectures and security solutions to support the delivery of Networks across the Siemens Mobility portfolio.

As a senior engineering role, the candidate should have a breadth of knowledge across all aspects of network engineering and an interest in bringing modern technologies and methodologies to the Rail industry. The successful candidate will be comfortable developing new solutions to help make the delivery of networking assets faster and more cost-effective while preserving Siemens’ reputation for safe and reliable delivery.

What will be my Responsibilities?

  • Capture and maintain template network solution architectures and guidance documents for the Siemens Rail Infrastructure portfolio, including but not limited to:
    • Railway Signalling & Control Systems
    • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
    • Station Information and Security Systems (SISS)
    • Operational Telecoms
    • MPLS transmission systems
  • Perform a technical reviewer role covering:
    • Review of designers risk assessments
    • Review of standards compliance statements
    • Review of IP address management
    • Review of network architectures against Siemens standard system architectures
    • Review of appropriate Switch Operating System baseline
  • Provide a network technical troubleshooting service from configuration build to EIS.
  • Produce bid documentation, including high-level architectures design effort estimates and bill of materials.
  • Contribute to the development of design tools and templates:
    • Capture and maintain the collection of requirements for the duration of the development.
    • Maintain the software documentation for the duration of the development
    • Supply testing to confirm the delivered tool meets its requirements

What Skills, Qualifications and Experience do I need?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Electronic Engineering or similar
  • Proven experience in the design and implementation of networks supporting one of the areas of the Siemens Mobility Rail Infrastructure Portfolio
  • A current ‘professional’ level qualification from a major networking vendor (e.g. CCNP, JCP)
  • Comfortable in a role with a high degree of autonomy
  • Experience within rail or another safety-critical industry
  • Telecommunications Networking experience
  • Familiar with a variety of network and IT automation and management systems
  • IRSE license
  • Working towards or achieved Professional registration
  • Familiar with the following languages: Python, YAML, XML
