What part will you play?

  • Recent technology advances have enabled the development of Augmented Reality (AR) wearables and mobile device and AR applications. However, when implementing and deploying AR based solutions in enterprise and industrials settings there are still several open issues to be addressed.
  • One very relevant and at the same time particularly challenging topic is the alignment and tracking of AR annotations in real (industrial) environments.
  • Particular challenges include: Alignment and tracking on multiple scales (small objects up to plant size), complex structures of pipes and wires, repetitive structure, reflective surfaces.
  • Therefore, a flexible and adaptable approach to alignment and tracking should be investigated that will take into account and improves not only the technology basis (e.g. SLAM, marker based tracking, image recognition, …) but also develops an optimized combination of these along with a focus on ease-of-use and robustness in real life settings and application.
  • In particular, available AR frameworks like ARKIT, ARCore, or MRTK as available in OTS mobile devices (tablets, smartphones) and wearables (e.g. Hololens2) need to be intelligently leveraged in the approach.

  • Successfully completed Masters degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/Communications/Physics/Mathematics.
  • Knowledge of computer vision algorithms incl. pattern recognition and analysis, image processing/signal processing, 3D geometry, optimization techniques
  • Exposure to deep learning techniques, algorithms, frameworks
  • Basic knowledge of human computer interaction and UX
  • Skilled in at least one or more programming languages: Python/C/C++/C#/Java
  • Highly motivated, independent thinking with creativity
  • Passionate about solving real-world problems
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong hold in the English language in oral and written form.
