Software Engineer - Railway Simulation & Control Systems

Siemens Mobility has an exciting opportunity for a software engineer to join our agile product development team in Chippenham..

Siemens Mobility is the largest supplier of railway signalling control solutions in the UK. Our technology is designed, developed, and manufactured in the UK, and delivered through our turnkey teams to major customers including Network Rail. Our Control Systems portfolio covers railway simulation, signalling control, SCADA, automatic route setting, and traffic management.

The successful candidate will be a key player in a small team, with the chance to really have an impact on the delivery of railway products into the UK market and will be involved in all aspects of software development from concept to delivery, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, and testing.

 Based in the Chippenham office, with options to work flexibly and remotely. Role may require from time to time provide technical support to other teams including sales, projects, and production, including occasional travel to customer sites.

What will be my responsibilities?

  • Software architecture and design
  • Development and implementation of software products
  • Unit testing and systems integration
  • Delivery to required standards

What skills, qualifications and experience do I need?


  • A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant STEM subject area
  • Proficiency in object-oriented software development, ideally in C#
  • Understanding of SOLID principles and common design patterns
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, railway signalling, operations and associated standards.


  • Self-motivated, adaptable and able to learn quickly
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of agile development practices
  • Experience of issue tracking and version control systems
  • Experience of publish/subscribe messaging
