HSC Engineer

Job Description

The HSC engineer works in the Customer Services organization and has the following responsibilities:

o   Root cause analysis: Articulate complex problems and resolutions to audiences with varying technical abilities

o   Creation and review of Service Knowledge Base entries

o   Model problem identification

o   Coordinate support collaborations and interfacing with 1st, 2nd and 3rd level support teams

o   Develop workarounds and troubleshooting scripts

o   Perform system and database recoveries =  strong understanding of backup and recovery strategies.

o   System and database tuning for performance related issues.

o   General understanding of development life cycle, including testing and delivery.

o   Ability to work nights and weekends; participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for severity 1 issues

o   Ability to travel (15%). Job may require rare travel to customer sites, training in Ann Arbor, MI, as well as global opportunities.

o   Valid passport.


Competencies required for the role are:

o   OS platform level troubleshooting skills

o   Windows configuration and troubleshooting.

o   Database level troubleshooting skills.  SQL Server, Oracle

o    In-depth knowledge of database tables

o   General knowledge of modality business, PACS, CARD, IS workflow, and DICOM standards; blend of IT knowledge with Cardiology and Radiology clinical workflow knowledge

o    In-depth knowledge of tracing and debug tools; understand and evaluate trace data to provide root cause or viable workaround

o   Knowledge of DICOM and HL7

o   Knowledge of TCP/IP networks

o   Strong data analysis and deductive reasoning skills

o   Strong interpersonal skills. Problem Managers engage with a wide array of internal functional areas

o   Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must

    • Professional and proactive attitude in all cases with ability to handle stressful conditions
    • Customer (both internal and external) focus

o   Self-motivated, able to work with minimum supervision while also team-oriented

o   Strong organizational skills.  Project management and/or time management training is a plus

o   Cerner Openlink knowledge a plus

o   Willingness to gain Department of Defense credentialing a plus (optional, tbc)
