Based at Hebburn near Newcastle the successful candidate will be in a Controls Engineer role with the responsibility for helping upgrade existing infrastructure using Siemens latest portfolio of control systems to ensure future sustainability for T&D network.
Siemens Digital Grid have recently secured a position on the National Grid 5 Year Light Current Framework, resiliently providing robust systems with the latest Siemens technology on new National Grid substations and extending the existing infrastructure. A safer and lower carbon project delivery footprint will be adopted.
Siemens latest portfolio of control system devices ensure future sustainability for T&D network, modernising digital initiatives including process bus, digital twin, and cyber security for the future.
You will successfully deliver; Transmission & Distribution control systems with our end-customers from various domains & disciplines. You will provide pre-sales support to our sales and proposal teams and support the project manager and commercial team to deliver projects on target and within scope.

As our Controls Engineer, you will be the technical lead on the project;
› Ensure compliance with customer technical specifications on allocated projects
› Production/checking of functional design specifications and design intent documents
› Development and configuration of engineering control solutions
› Production/checking of all test documentation
› Carry out FAT activities
› Provide SAT support including RAMS
› Responsible for technical issues/support on allocated projects
› Ensuring that Siemens solutions meet the requirements of the latest policies and standards
› Attend internal and external design reviews providing technical input
› Provide technical input for tendering activities
• Adhere to all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies, including Business Conduct Guidelines & Confidential Information
• Promote Siemens Zero Harm Safety Initiative and culture
• Recognise and Reward achievements and good practice
We are looking for super minds, not superheroes.
Experience of National Grid delivery and specifications / standards are important.
A minimum qualification of HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering plus experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Industry.
We encourage mobile working policy where appropriate, it is advantageous but not vital for the role to be predominantly based in Hebburn. Some travel to customer sites will be required from time to time.
Whilst this role has no requirement for line management, it would be expected to provide mentoring of other team members.
Working towards Chartered Electrical Engineering status desirable.
• Experience in a similar role involving configuration and testing of medium to large scale SCADA systems, control systems, automation systems and communication infrastructure.
• Experience with the following technologies;
› SICAM PAS
› SICAM SCC / WinCC
› SIPROTEC 4 / 5
› SICAM 1703
› Toolbox II and CAExPlus
• Experience of Serial and Ethernet based communication protocols and topologies (IEC60870-5-101/103/104, IEC61850)
• Understanding of Cyber Security requirements in control and automation systems (IEC62443,IEC62351).
• Configuration and testing of networks(RSTP,PRP) utilising software tools for analyses and fault finding
• Demonstrate excellent Leadership skills
• Good standard of IT literacy - especially Word, Visio and Excel
• Good written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills
