Junior Project Engineer

Job Description

We’re looking for a Junior Project Engineer with the skills and vision to join Siemens Smart Infrastructure and help us build a better tomorrow. 

You will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of products across the whole DS portfolio and varied Projects, covering DNO, industrial and National electrical infrastructure customer sites with life cycles ranging from a few months to year upon year contracts.

Supporting the project team or as the lead on small work packages, service or product delivery the project you will be working with support staff from the operations team, developing delivery strategy for each project to efficiently maximise project performance as tendered or through improved ways of delivery through effective planning and control.

What part will you play?

  • Support Senior Project Engineers (SPE) and Project Managers (PM) and lead on small contracts as required. 
  • Maintain and be responsible for high standards of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment - including reporting of all accidents, incidents and serious near misses, including any follow up investigations and actions as required.
  • Assist with the Order winning team, delivery of scope, budget & program prior to submission. 
  • Accept projects and deliver to tendered scope, budget & program actively seeking to increase gross margin performance
  • Understand project controls throughout the Project lifecycle. 
  • Understand the terms and conditions of contracts under your control, working with the project team and commercial partner as required. 
  • Assist in developing a delivery strategy for each project to efficiently maximise project performance as tendered or through improved ways of delivery through effective planning and control. 
  • Provide programs and resource / manpower requirements for Fields Team as required seeking advice as necessary. 
  •  Management of customer requirements to increase the project scope through effective variation control to agreed terms & conditions of contract. 
  •  Work towards an effective “risk & opportunity” register for all projects under their/team control including cost and program related items. 
  • Coordinate and manage all procurement, engineering, manufacturing, field team and sub-contract interfaces for projects under their control. 
  • Carry out effective contract reviews with SPE/PM and finance team including forecasting of financial and resource requirements. 
  • Participate in business improvement, cost reduction and sales stimulation ideas creation and delivery to the overall benefit of the business. 
  • Make full use on the Non-conformance reporting (NCR) tool ensuring all project related NCR’s are closed out in a timely manner and NCC are captured. 
  • Ensure business success with excellent customer satisfaction by delivering the tendered scope safely, to budget, on time and to quality to meet and optimise gross margin expectations and seeking to increase gross margin performance
What will you bring to the role?

·       HNC/HND/Degree Qualified in a suitable engineering subject or demonstrable potential to attain suitable qualifications. 

·       Some project delivery experience from either a suitable training program or practical application / background. 

·       Ability to use to a high standard all Microsoft applications: – MS-Project, Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.  

·       Working knowledge and practical application of Project management planning methodologies and tools preferred.  

·       Knowledge of the Electrical Supply Industry from a supplier or customer perspective preferred or equivalent industry with demonstrable transferable knowledge.
