Job Description: Motor/Gear technicians are responsible for the assembly of a motor to include operating production equipment, disassembly, cleaning of parts and assembling components according to drawings and guidelines to ensure product specifications and quality standards are met. Motor technicians may need to work directly with supervisor or engineers to resolve any production issues.
Education - HS diploma or equivalent required.
Tasks may include the following
1 Inspect (including pictures), disassemble, clean, reassemble, test (if applicable), and adjust completed units to ensure that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
2 Unpackage, stage and perform visual inbound inspection. Take photos.
3 Record winding and bearing insulation to ground using required tools.
4 Remove coupling using hydraulic tool.
5 Disassemble motor using special tools kit.
6 Inspect all housings and journals. Inspect the coupling according to drawings.
7 Clean all labyrinth seal, rotor and pulse wheel assemblies. Clean and remove surface rust from the rotor (if applicable) and bake at low temperature (if required).
8 Bake the stator assembly at low temperature (8-10 hours @ 175 degrees C)
9 Post cleaning, record the insulation resistance test results.
10 Perform a surge compression test to verify the stator winding condition. Inspect coil condition for abrasion and/or other damage.
11 Clean the end bells, clean all fittings, drain holes and remaining parts.
12 Balance the rotor and pulse wheel assembly and record results on the Process Control Sheet. Use special balance weights as required.
13 Install new bearings, replace grease tube and tapered grease nipple. Flush regreasing provision with specified bearing grease.
14 Reassemble the motor using special tool kit.
15 Megger and record bearing insulation resistance during and after the final assembly.
16 Perform all final electrical tests and perform no load / vibration analysis. Record all results on the Process Control Sheet.
17 Re-install coupling using special tool.
18 Provide motor to paint specialist for painting.
19 Clean up working areas and inventory tools.
20 Conduct 5S audits and safety walks.
21 Participate in work groups / projects in order to inform oneself and to provide information to the others and to optimize processes and workflows.
