To provide project engineering team leadership to ensure projects are to the required quality and safety standards and to project timescales. This will be achieved through the management of performance and the development of the team and will involve the coordination of all engineering disciplines within projects. The Senior Project Engineer will also be expected to act as the Project Engineering Manager on a large project or on a number of medium-sized projects. 

What are my responsibilities?

  • Support and assist the Technical Authority to manage the product configuration, hardware and data templates and documentation suite for Siemens Rail Infrastructure LoCoDR signalling technology in support of project delivery across the Rail Infrastructure delivery regions.
  • Be the Technical Authority’s representative, providing a single point of contact for all internal stakeholders for LoCoDR technology.
  • Ensure that any changes made to the technology and or product meet all relevant technical standards including CDM and CSM, and where applicable liaise with the Network Rail Product acceptance teams to achieve appropriate product acceptance as support delivery of relevant projects.
  • Produce and coordinate budgeting estimates and forecasting of spend for technology and product change activities forecasting the overall engineering resources and key skills necessary for agreed technology changes in sufficient time to ensure that they can be provided.
  • Participate in and monitor the planning and progress of technology/product change related works in relation to timeline and budget and ensure that the development, design, testing requirements are met and effect remedial action when required.
  • Support delivery regions and Bids & Tendering in producing technically accurate tenders where LoCoDR is the technology of choice 
  • Ensure that the required Safety Assurance activities are undertaken when technology and/or product updates are undertaken and ensure that key supporting documentation underpinning the product safety case is updated as required
  • Maintain continuous communication with business functions during the development and implementation of technology changes to ensure a uniformity of purpose and common targets.
  • Coordinate the engineering activities of various technical functions such as manufacturing, R&D, Signalling Design, Safety Assurance etc. in bringing about technology and or product hardware updates
  • Review and assess the engineering aspects of technology changes as required to meet project and client requirements.
  • Identify and implement improvements in the management of technology configuration, documentation and templates
  • Conduct Value Engineering activities to ensure the cost of LoCoDR hardware is as low as reasonably practicable
What do I need to qualify for this role?

  • Excellent communications skills, understanding of task time and people management 
  • Strong leadership skills including an ability to work across delivery regions and to drive activities across multiple business functions
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • Member of the IET, IRSE or other recognised professional body
  • Hold a current IRSE Project Engineer licence

  • Chartered Engineer status 
  • To have passed four modules in the IRSE Professional Examinations
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of Signal and Railway Engineering  
  • Practical experience of the operational requirements of railway construction works 
  • Knowledge of project safety requirements and contract conditions  
  • A1 Assessor Qualification                                        
  • Knowledge and experience of the deployment of LoCoDR (modular) signalling technology
