Production Supervisor - Motors Repair Shop

Job Description


Siemens Large Drives is looking for a multifaceted Manufacturing Manager for our Kansas City Repair Shop. In this position you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day Activities within the shop areas in a unionized site with operational excellence as a goal. The incumbent will drive a strong safety culture throughout the department to become world class. This position reports to the Plant Manager and is a key member of the Leadership Team. The incumbent manages and leads staff including: 10 hourly employees.

  • Manages and schedules shop work, maintains customer contacts leads all aspects of sophisticated product manufacturing to ensure that cost efficiency, manufacturability, quality and safety requirements are attainable in the production process.
  • Develop work quotations to customers.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits. Ensure requirements for both OSHA and site specific are adhered to.
  • Leads the development of accuracy and availability of sophisticated procedures to support product modifications and assembly.
  • Leads the establishment of costs, variances, inventory and material transactions.
  • Identifies resource needs with significant influence on approval of identified needs.
  • Work closely with union leadership to ensure a collaborative relationship.
  • Define and develop manufacturing strategy with shop personnel.
  • Excel and develop Shop Floor Management, drive sustainable problem solutions.
  • Understand, live and improve value stream mapping/design.
  • Successfully defines work flows, jobs, and reporting relationships to acquire optimum efficiency.
  • Impact of decisions on business operations can have a high level of impact.
  • Fixes and resolves sophisticated problems.
  • May be responsible for overall success of function or project.
Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

Demonstrates and applies advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures for area led and good knowledge of other areas in the company and how they interact.

Demonstrates full understanding and application of management approaches for work direction, Motivation, and performance management. Typically 2+ years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above.

The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • BS degree or equivalent experience in mechanical, or related engineering degree
  • 3-5 years of proven track record leading a production area
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Tight-knit teamwork and influencing skills
  • Experience with lean manufacturing tools and processes.
  • Experience in ERP systems, ex: SAP
  • Experience in supervising machining equipment ie: lathes, mills

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Motor repair and machining
  • Understanding of Lean principles and practices.
  • Electrical testing, vibration analysis, alignment of equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Understand tolerances.
  • Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
