System Architect - Critical Care Franchise

Job Description

This R&D role is responsible for leading and managing the system architecture activities within the Critical Care Franchise in the Point of Care business line for Siemens Healthineers, located at the Edgewater site in Norwood, MA.  The System Architect uses transdisciplinary and integrative approaches to enable the successful translation of customer and business needs into the timely and cost-efficient realization and lifecycle management of solutions.


  • Drives and guides system architectures that enable cost efficient and timely realization and lifecycle management of solutions with the appropriate quality, even in the face of challenging and changing requirements and realization technologies
  • Validates customer and market requirements, clarifies understanding and technical feasibility, and translates them into product, system, and subsystem requirements
  • Interfaces with customers, internal stakeholders, developers, and subject matter experts to assess, optimize and maintain cross-functional system specifications
  • Drives the evaluation and selection of proposed solutions, facilitates tradeoffs, and development study approaches with respect to technological and commercial aspects
  • Provides input to definition of shippable products in an agile development release train including a roadmap of progressively increasing functionality
  • Acts as a key stakeholder in technical reviews
  • Assists in the creation of verification plans and protocols to test solutions against requirements and user needs
  • Models and defines initiatives needed to establish and maintain a cross-functional systems-thinking culture
  • Interprets and functionally influences policy, guidelines, and processes to deliver functional objectives


  • BS in Engineering or Science, advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years work experience in product development
  • 5+ years work experience in the medical device industry or other regulated industry preferred

Required Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, Model-Based Systems Engineering and Digital Engineering methods
  • Ability to decompose complex technical issues into a simplified set of decisions and questions for a cross functional team
  • Operate flexibly in an environment with competing priorities
  • Exhibit a bias toward action, balanced by strong analytical decision-making skills 
  • Knowledge on verification and validation of the concepts and specifications versus the requirements and standards.
  • Familiarity with decision making and structured problem-solving methodologies
  • Knowledge of agile, lean and/or six sigma processes preferred
