Software Developer (m/f/d) for Simulation Software with Game Engine for Crane Applications

Job Description

Here at Digital Industries, one of the main pillars of Siemens, we are the market leader in industrial automation. Our products are used in factories across the world, from car production to bottling plants.

At Motion Control, part of Digital Industries, we build the engineering software used by our customers to move and set up their machines – think of the brain for cranes or many other machines.

Cranes development has been taking place at the headquarter in Erlangen for many years. As part of our product and solution development, we work closely with our project departments at home and abroad. We are organized in various development teams. The areas of responsibility range from drive topics to lidar and visual systems to artificial intelligence applications.

In your new role as software developer (m/f/d) for simulation software you will be responsible for the development of complex simulation software modules and systems in an international environment. As a big part of our team is working in the Netherlands, it is necessary to travel occasionally for business reasons.

In the game engine Unity, you will develop digital twins of ship terminal cranes, which will be used for development and construction, but also for sales. This includes developing, testing and maintaining the algorithms and 3D rendering.  The design of the technical implementation considering the necessary interfaces to measurement, automation and IT systems (SW-/HW in the loop) is part of your tasks.

The reusability of the individual simulation elements is of great importance. Accordingly, you pay attention to standardized interfaces, frameworks and develop reusable libraries and Unity packages. You do this in agile development processes and will implement extensive tests.

Your further tasks are to ensure the agreed functionalities as well as the maintenance and further development of the system in the context of the operational business. Accordingly, you also advise and support other Siemens Groups.

In addition to the further development of existing functionalities, you are also open to new application fields and technologies (HTML5, WebGL, Machine Learning).

With your flexible and adaptable attitude, you drive change and excel at analytical thinking as well as abstraction skills to find the best and most sustainable solution to a problem within the given solution space.

  • You have a successfully completed master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or comparable.
  • You have already gained several years of professional experience in the development of software modules and systems, preferably in the field of real-time 2D/3D applications (e.g., Unity, Unreal, etc.).
  • You have very good knowledge of C# and object-oriented programming is also not new territory for you.
  • You have experience with the development of computationally intensive simulation tasks. You are familiar with modern methods for performance enhancement, such as the Unity Job System and the corresponding burst compiler.
  • Realistic rendering results are essential for our simulation. Therefore, you should have experience with Unity's rendering pipeline. Knowledge of shader development is a plus.
  • You have already worked with the well-known development tools for debugging and optimization, such as the Unity Profiler, Frame and Physics Debugger.
  • It is beneficial to have professional experience in an industrial plant environment.
  • Ideally, you have experience working in an agile team (SCRUM). Scrum Master knowledge would be a big plus.
  • Solid English skills complete your profile, German is a nice to have.

  • Attractive remuneration package
  • 2 to 3 days of mobile working per week as a future global standard
  • 30 leave days and a variety of flexible working models that allow time off for yourself and your family
  • Development opportunities for both personal and professional growth
