Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Quantity Surveyor within our Rail Infrastructure business. You will be responsible for providing a dedicated and professional pre and post contract commercial management service to this new and developing team.

The Communications & Information Systems (CIS) business specialise in the delivery of Telecoms, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and SISS (Station Information and Security Systems) projects for internal and external customers within the Rail Infrastructure sector. This is a growing business with a pipeline of secured work looking to add an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to the team. Our primary office and production facility is in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire with several satellite offices across the UK.

As Quantity Surveyor, you will carry out commercial duties in a project team with pre- and post contract support for designated packages of work, including subcontract administration, change management and commercial reporting. You will assist the project manager to ensure successful delivery within cost and time constraints.

This is your role. What part will you play?

Commercial functions of various work packages. Primarily covering telecoms, SCADA and SISS.

  • Work with the project delivery team responsible for work package / project change control and management
  • Liaise with work package managers to collate information on the works
  • Assist with work package cost management, including forecasting, budget management and control
  • Provide input to and prepare internal and external commercial reports
  • Establish and maintain interfaces with key stakeholders. E.g., finance, project management, engineering, subcontractors, suppliers, and project employers
  • Maintain auditable records for responsible work packages in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Manage cost of both direct labour, material, plant and subcontract cost
  • Assists with the implement commercial strategies (essential)

What do I need to qualify for the job?

  • Previous Quantity Surveyor / Contract Administrator experience ideally working within a contractor side project environment
  • Experience ideally gained in a similar or related contracting business, infrastructure/construction, or other regulated industry e.g., Rail, Utilities, Civil Engineering, Oil & Gas, Defence etc.
  • HND/Degree qualified or equivalent and/or hold or working towards professional qualification, RICS, CICES
  • Ability to estimate change / variations using various methods
  • Able to forecast cost and measure cost of work complete
  • Good negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and manage expectation
  • Good financial and commercial acumen
  • Ability to work under own initiative and under cost or time critical conditions
  • Good basic contractual knowledge and understanding
  • Use of Microsoft Office and other software to present high standard of documentation
