Head of SAP Basis Team

Job Description

You will be part of the global SHS SAP Leadership Team managing SAP Basis Operations (Technical Application Managers) to ensure best-in-class Basis Operations of our SAP backbone systems with upmost focus on state-of-the art Cyber Security compliance.

Services will be provided in close collaboration with internal and external Service Providers in an international and globally acting environment, who are responsible for DC hosting / operation and for functional Application Management.

Leading a team of about 10-12 SAP basis experts operating from different sites in Slovakia, India and US, you will be a key contact for the head of the SHS SAP Technical Services, in close partnership with your peers, the heads of SAP COE teams.

With in-depth knowledge of SAP framework, platform technology and standards, you will be focusing on continuous service improvement and driving related innovation initiatives with partner teams.

You will support contracting initiatives, operational service level reporting and related monitoring activities, participating also in regular Service Management Boards.

Task and Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of about 10 SAP basis experts located in Slovakia, US & India
  • Hold accountability for the governed stability, availability and system performance of SHS SAP backbone landscapes, assuring best in-class operations in close collaboration with internal/external Service Providers
  • Operational accountability for the Continuity Management services
  • Assuring best in-class service operations in close collaboration with Service Providers
  • Surveillance of day-to-day technical Service Management
  • Consulting of Functional IT App Managers related to operational and general technical driven topics
  • Supporting & managing escalations of critical incidents (with root-cause in technical area)
  • Ensuring that technical system documentation is up to date
  • Ensuring that adequate Information / Cyber Security protection measures & concepts are in place
  • Guarantee that Information Security health checks get conducted, security risks get identified and appropriate mitigation measures will get taken
  • Support handling of Information Security related Exception Requests
  • Consulting of Functional IT Application Managers for operational and general technical driven topics
  • Ensure proper maintenance of technical records in central CMDB and related IT-tools & applications
  • Ensuring proper communication of downtimes related to technical changes
  • Close collaboration with technical solution design & system architecture team as well as SHS infrastructure team
  • Coordinate implementation of technical changes, e.g. SAP kernel, HANA version changes, Upgrades
  • Oversee team specific Change Management, prioritize as needed
  • Approval of Emergency Changes as proxy to the Service / System Owner
  • Representing team in projects, ensuring 360-degree coverage of all technical aspects
  • Ensure proper support of IT audits, ITGC implementation and monitoring
  • Support reporting and controlling, e.g. SLA’s, Licensing compliance, CERT reporting
  • Ensuring that Siemens standards will be followed, and owned process are fully integrated and compliant with overarching IT Service Management framework
  • Identify process & performance optimization opportunities, drive implementation of improvement initiatives

Required Education, Experience and Knowledge/Skills

Education:

  • University degree in engineering / computer science or similar

Experience:

  • At least 8 - 10 years of experience in SAP area, ideally with technical background (Netweaver, HANA)
  • Multi-year management experience in leading technical teams & collaboration with external Service Providers.
  • In-depth knowledge of SAP related security concepts
  • Proven experience in dealing with major incident / escalation and continuity management
  • Must be able to demonstrate sound functional understanding of the SAP technical framework

General Technical Skills:

  • Must be proficient with concepts of SAP architecture
  • Solid SAP cross-functional knowledge and expertise
  • Solid knowledge of ITIL framework
  • Solid knowledge of ITGC framework and IT Audit experience
  • In-depth expertise in technical SAP Basis area would be beneficial (system architecture / technical solution design)
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience in technical Service Management

Non-Technical Skills:

  • International leadership experience
  • Strong leader with proven track record for leading SAP technical application management team.
  • Must be able to communicate and work effectively in a multi-cultural environment. Must possess the ability to collaborate remotely with the functional teams in Germany, India and the USA.
  • German language skills would be helpful, but not mandatory.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to drive the topics across different teams with strong focus on agreed upon targets
  • Must be capable of taking initiative, with a firm understanding of the final goal to be achieved
  • In addition to acting as an excellent team player, you must be able to guide and coach the team
  • Experience as a project manager (ideally in an agile & classical waterfall approach)
  • Very good understanding of Service Management, especially dealing with external Service Providers

Basic wage component (gross) and other rewards : starting from 4000EUR brutto /month + VAR*
