As a new Siemens team member joining the Energy Business Advisory business function part of Power Technologies International segment in the Grid Software Business, you will plan and deliver consulting solutions in the Energy sector providing strategic, business process and technical expertise-based services with a specific focus on managing the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and transition to a decentralized multi-directional grid. Siemens Energy Business Advisory team has been deeply engaged helping utilities plan for and address the opportunities and challenges associated with DER. This work has been a key element of utility transformation programs and has included the design and implementation of solutions that enable the operational management of DER including people, process and technology, with a specific focus on integration with energy control center operations.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will work with utilities, government agencies, municipalities, and commercial and industrial customers to develop innovative solutions employing smart grid and grid edge technologies. You will provide thought leadership, analytical and technical insights as well as implementation capabilities supporting customer in the development of strategy and execution of plans.

The ideal candidate will have an in depth understanding of market, technological, and policy changes that are driving the energy industry transformation and the opportunities to utilize DER technologies to support decarbonization and beneficial electrification. Additionally, experience with grid modernization programs, energy control center software and renewable generation and storage would be desired.

The Smart Energy Consultant will be expected to work independently as well as collaborate with teams, and ensure deliverables meet expectations for value and quality. 

What will you do?

  • Facilitate workshops with stakeholders discussing industry trends, current business performance, strategic objectives and potential new business models
  • Analyze current state utility operations processes and data systems to develop utility modernization strategies and programs
  • Conduct research, analysis and design activities to support client executive decision-making
  • Analyze technology systems functions and processes and recommend improvement strategies
  • Document strategic roadmap scenarios, detail transformation & business case requirements/reports and processes
  • Perform the financial analysis and modeling of project benefits and contribute to development of spreadsheet-based analytics tools
  • Contribute to change activities needed to support process implementation activities
  • Develop communication plans for both internal and client management team
  • Leverage experience with DER technology, energy management, grid modernization; as well as a general understanding of utility operations, commercial and industrial energy management, or other related industry experience

What will you need to succeed?

  • University degree in Engineering, Business or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience leading and/or managing the delivery of technical projects
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in delivering consultancy services or related position
  • Experience designing solutions for the utility industry involving smart grid technologies
  • Demonstrates a solid working knowledge and experience of DER technologies; Distributed Generation, Battery Storage, Demand Side Management and Electric Vehicles/Chargers as well as knowledge of DER management software and business models is required for this role
  • Experience with use case elaboration, gathering and managing systems and business requirements
  • Experience with business transformation program delivery, process modeling and process re-engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Available for frequent domestic and some international travel when needed

The following experience and skills would be considered strong assets for this role:

  • Experience with one or more of the following technology solutions: Distribution Management Systems/ADMS, GIS, SCADA, DERMS, Microgrid controllers.
  • Understanding of DER program design principles, incentive models and cost effectiveness test methodologies
  • Experience in GHG impact analysis and modelling
  • Experience in power systems analysis and design using modeling and simulation software
  • An advanced degree in engineering or MBA
