NTAR Training and Apprenticeships Sales Manager

Job Description

Siemens Mobility Limited (SMO) are looking for a Technical Sales Manager to work within our Educational & Skills central function and with our National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) which is operated by Siemens and based in Northampton. NTAR is a recognised Centre of Excellence having been created to upskill the rail industry.

Working closely with the Head of Governance, Assurance and Business Development and the NTAR General Manager, this role requires a highly credible business development professional with the ability to work at C-Level, with strong technical capabilities, and who can develop coherent Go-to Market strategy and plans, feed into development of sales and marketing collateral, identify, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships and guide innovative and creative propositions through to contract and delivery.

Critical to sustained growth and development of NTAR is the development of the partnership and customer base within the markets for the operation and maintenance of traction and rolling stock, and infrastructure e.g. signalling, telecoms and electrification. The target customers comprise of OEMs, Train Operators, Freight Operators, Accredited Organisations, Academic Institutions and consumers (e.g. career transition, return to work, etc). All types of learning interventions are within the portfolio, such as: apprentice programmes, e-learning, coaching, mentoring, training, webinars, virtual reality, distance learning, etc.

Our focus with the 'new normal' is working where you’re most productive. This role will require travelling on a regular basis to attend events and attend NTAR in Northampton, so we can be flexible with where the ideal candidate will be coming from.

Key Accountabilities:


Define and deliver Sales Plan

  • Develop credible Go-to-Market strategy and sales plans to deliver new business element of NTAR Business Plan
  • Manage the sales process from prospect to contract
  • Identify and target key prospects and develop prospect specific sales and win plans per target and lead to close
  • Identify, plan, develop and execute new business opportunities to meet business plan targets

Continuous improvement (New product development)

  • Work with training managers, training partners, accrediting bodies, and industry bodies to identify and develop new sales offerings
  • Onboard new customers and set up client management process for key customers
  • Genuine entrepreneurial drive and spirit
  • Suggest and incorporate new technologies
  • Diversification of portfolio

Technical Sales

  • General knowledge of the rail industry
  • Understanding of (rail perspective):
    • Rolling stock (inc. passenger, trams, maglev, monorail, funiculars, etc.)
    • Signalling (inc. ETCS/ERTMS)
    • Telecommunications (Fixed and mobile)
    • Electrification
    • Station Management
    • Permanent Way
    • Customer service
    • High speed rail
    • Digitalisation
  • Drawing up of estimates and working with finance to develop costings for tendered opportunities including facilities/tooling required
  • Calculating return on investment

Customer, partner, and industry body relationships

  • Establish and own strategic relationship with key delivery partners, awarding organisation
  • Develop and own joint go to market strategies with key partner organisations
  • Be seen as a thought leader/trusted advisor in the industry and by partners and customers
  • Demonstrate industry and political context to advise customers on new and innovative training and learning solutions
  • Building and maintaining strong rapport

Financial Management

  • Own targets for income and contribution derived from new customers and additional business from existing customers
  • Report monthly on in-year, subsequent year and 3-year outlook for both income and contribution
  • Review marketing and communication budget

Marketing and communications

  • Develop new sales collateral and work with the marketing and communications teams to bring to life products and services
  • Maintain catalogue and website in conjunction with brand partner
  • Enabling marketing initiatives such as social media to promote opportunities and solutions
  • Attend industry related events

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Know-How


Essential:

  • Education to NQF level 5 or equivalent in experience
  • Strong technical knowledge and capabilities
  • Proven track record in sales / business development / marketing
  • Ability to convert business strategy to successful sales plans
  • Ability to conclude commercial negotiations with clear understanding of financial detail
  • Ability to successfully run an E2E sales process from engagement to contract
  • Ability to network and engage actively and extensively, demonstrating the ability to initiate and build strategic relationships
  • Excellent presentation, speaking, active listening, and communication skills
  • Energy, drive and can-do attitude with a high work rate
  • Ability to work effectively within both an immediate team so that key technical detail is understood in addition to more widely within a matrix organisation
  • Confidence and maintaining a positive attitude

Preferred:

  • Industry experience advantageous
  • Good understanding / experience in the use of technology to deliver training and conferences advantageous
  • Knowledge of the PM@Siemens process
