Position Overview

This position will be based out of Wendell, North Carolina with project responsibilities across the United States.  Responsibilities include managing third-party spending on materials, equipment, and construction trade subcontractors to support projects in the Grid Software business. The role will provide support to the U.S. Project Procurement Manager on projects in the bidding phase to improve Siemens' competitive position by helping manage the subcontractor solicitations (RFQs and RFPs), bid leveling, and price negotiations; it also includes working to manage and develop a diverse group of suppliers and subcontractors to support the business requirements. This role assists the management team for the Grid Software operations and has a significant impact on the competitiveness and profitability of the business and will report to the National Procurement Manager.

Working remotely is an option.  Candidates outside of the Wendell area will be considered but living in the eastern time zone is preferred. 

Responsibilities

  • Produce cost savings achieved through price negotiations, value engineering efforts, and other means such as leveraging national agreements and Category management leads.
  • Increase working capital for the business by negotiating favorable vendor payment terms.
  • The Senior Buyer role will support the procurement activities for a third party spend of $25 million to $30 million dollars.
  • Maintain the appropriate level of bid solicitation rates that comply with internal procurement policies and ensure that single source purchasing activities are strategic and justifiable.
  • Able to effectively work with digital construction documents, and experience with soliciting competitive bids by using an electronic bidding platform.
  • Support the Project Procurement Manager with minority or disadvantaged business requirements.
  • Manage relationships with major suppliers including soliciting feedback from internal customers. Evaluate supplier delivery, quality, and cost performance, and develop and implement supplier improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate procurement policies and procedures with internal Management, Operations, and Sales. Support the Project Procurement Manager with the deployment of new procurement tools, systems, and policies.
  • Examine all quotes and proposals for thoroughness and accuracy. Verify critical information such as cost breakdowns, scope descriptions, product ID numbers, required delivery dates, terms and conditions, and exclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully produce results in a remote work environment.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience and 5-7 total years of experience in purchasing.   Procurement experience to include price solicitation and negotiation for contracts greater than $500K.  Digital Grid business unit business experience preferred.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • BS in engineering, engineering technology, business, or computer science.
  • Design, estimating or project management experience with electrical grid systems.
  • Experience working with sales and engineering functions on cost reduction efforts.
  • Procurement management experience in a large, global corporation.
  • Contract negotiation experience.
  • Experience with developing a diverse supply base.
  • Must be proficient in English.
