Reporting Manager: Solution Engineering Manager

We are looking for a motivated professional employee with a passion for control and instrumentation engineering to join our team to support us in addressing the challenges faced in the industry. Our area of business includes design, manufacture, implementation and support of electrification, automation, and digitalization projects. The successful candidate will lead the automation Solutions Engineering team to successfully delivery complete control and instrumentation systems using Siemens technology for a wide range of exciting applications such as
· Mine Winders
· Conveyor Belt Systems
· Stacker/Reclaimers
· Mills
· Integrated engineering of mining, cement and metals process plants
Coordinates and supervises Engineering activities for Solutions, leads and advises a team of qualified professionals engineers and technicians and ensures adherence to processes and procedures.
Leads, develops, and motivates a group of dedicated qualified employees and professionals functionally to achieve the targets set.
Defines and ensures adherence to guidelines, processes, and procedures, for the Engineering Team assigned.
Coordinates Engineering activities performed by a team of professionals and technicians and controls execution according to the organizational guidelines.
Provides suitable work environment and implements people management processes.
Plans and allocates resources and budgets to Engineering projects or activities.
Ensures continuous training and professional development of team members in accordance with a proactively managed skills matrix
Continuously follows industry and technology developments, and ensures adoption of latest trends and innovations
Assists when required to do quotations, technical support for selling Siemens Process Control and Automation solutions
Ensure high standards of engineering quality is maintained in order to achieve customer satisfaction and avoid non-conformance costs
Continuously looking for process improvements and stimulating innovative thinking within the team to maximise productivity and efficiency
Participate in clients design studies, Hazop and other activities as trusted advisor
Travel to sites (within SA and cross border) for installation & commissioning, site audits, project & tender meetings, iFAT,CFAT,SAT etc
Will be required to work extended hours on site as required on projects due to critical deadlines during installation & commissioning phases
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor of Engineering/Science/Technology, National Technical Diploma (S4 or T4)
Current ECSA registration is an advantage
Minimum 7 years’ experience in software development and leading small to medium sized team.
Demonstrated familiarity with electrical and control system engineering in target industries (Oil and Gas, Mining, Cement and / or Paper) this would include greenfield and brownfields projects.
Attributes and skills
Proven track record in the design, development and deployment of Siemens Simatic PCS 7 systems
Experienced in the application of integrated engineering environments and tools, including system simulation for test and training purposes
Additional Siemens product knowledge would be an advantage (TIA Portal, Step7, WinCC with other products such as Simocodes, Soft Starters VSD’s)
Understanding of Project Management principles
Evidence of team leadership capabilities
Fluent in understanding electrical drawings, P&ID’s, PFD’s
Able to unpack scope of work into smaller packages for the team to execute.
Able estimate effort required to complete scope of work
Fluent in understanding electrical drawings, P&ID’s, PFD’
Able to create a control philosophy, FDS, EDS, DDS
