About the role

As a Consultant Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical consulting support in the Digital Applications team, specifically providing project support (i) for SPSE customers at both an execution and supervisory level and (ii) for sales and business development activities. You will also assist in promoting and developing the team’s technology base for digital applications.

Area of responsibility

  • In collaboration with other consultants, contribute to the execution of Digital Application projects across the Energy & Chemicals and Formulated Products business units
  • Design Digital Applications to meet client objectives within SPSE’s delivery capability
  • Ensure projects that are executed by you are delivered to the highest quality and within budgeted cost and time
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of Human-Machine Interfaces and Dashboards to facilitate effective Digital Application solutions
  • Support on-site teams installing SPSE’s Digital Applications at client sites, either in the form of Decision Support Advisors or closed-loop Real-Time Optimizer (RTO) systems
  • Ensure internal and external documentation is of appropriate content and quality
  • Contribute towards Factory and Site Acceptance Testing and project sign-offs
  • Provide post-sales support to clients for solutions already delivered
  • Provide marketing support, including demonstration dashboards/DA systems and white papers on model-based process engineering

Your qualifications

  • A First or 2:1 Master’s degree in Process, Chemical, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in one of the tools would be useful though not essential;
  • The application of custom modelling (gPROMS®, SPEEDUP®, Aspen Custom Modeller®, Dymola® or another equation-oriented modelling tool) to solving process systems problems
  • The application of modelling tools to chemicals, oil and gas related applications (using for example gPROMS, OLGA or HYSYS Dynamics)
  • Programming (FORTRAN, Python, C, C++) experience would be helpful but is not essential
  • Demonstrated experience and / or knowledge of the following would be an advantage:
  • Process control applications
  • Advanced Process Control technologies such as RTO
  • Proactively applying engineering and problem solving skills to develop cost effective control application strategies
  • Performing process control infrastructure and technology assessments
