Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and professional technical person who will be responsible for building a world-class Field Applications Engineering team servicing Siemens EDA’s Aprisa digital implementation solutions in North America.

In this position you will build and lead a new team of talented applications engineers in Siemens EDA’s Saskatoon office. You will assemble this team by recruiting from a variety of available sources, including local and national universities, industry, and immigration programs, among others. The position will also require developing and implementing best practices for supporting Siemens’ customers in pre-sales and post-sales engagements.

This is a management position, but it is also a very hands-on role requiring strong technical ability. You will work directly with customers as well as with your team members. You do not need to have experience with Aprisa software for this role; you will be provided training to become an Aprisa expert.

The job will be based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, with 25% or less travel required.

In this role, you will be expected to do the following:
  • Lead recruitment, training, and development of new staff into the team
  • Collaborate with local universities and industry talent pools to identify and recruit top talents
  • Develop best practices and deliver training for the field applications engineers supporting pre-sales and post-sales engagements
  • Manage Aprisa customers’ technical support activities, including assessing how company products meet customer needs, and provide feedback to production engineering and R&D teams
  • Work with the business unit’s product marketing and management teams to define new product requirements and provide insight based on customers’ needs and the field perspective
  • Provide pre-sales technical support in sales presentations and product demonstrations to active and prospective customers
  • Contribute towards the area technical sales plan with management and create/review account technical plans. Communicate frequently with peers and management on progress and account status
You should possess the following combination of education, experience, and characteristics:
  • BS Degree or equivalent in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Masters preferred
  • 5+ years of industry experience in product support, applications engineering, or a similar role
  • Prior leadership or direct supervision experience
  • Evidence of the ability to lead by example, displaying the attitude and skills to which direct reports should aspire
  • Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to motivate others towards results
  • Ideal candidates with have a strong understanding of the IC digital implementation (“DI”) domain including synthesis, place-and-route and signoff verification flows, or a demonstrated ability to rapidly learn a new domain
  • Ideal candidates will have an understanding of best practices and methods to achieve optimal performance-power-area (“PPA”) results or a demonstrated ability to rapidly learn a new domain
  • Hands-on experience as an EDA applications engineer or designer in DI domain is a significant bonus
  • Clear ability to enjoy working with customers and cross-functional teams (sales/account managers, field applications engineers, business unit)
  • Experience in developing customer relationships and corresponding experience in expectation management
  • A confident, results-focused communication style; a style that will win business
  • A mindset that embraces new learning experiences including an ability to respond positively to organizational needs and changes
