A new opportunity has arisen for a Lead Project Engineer to join the expanding team based out of the Manchester office. 

The Project Engineer’s duties are to undertake tasks to assist with the delivery of engineering packages on projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that their work meets the appropriate standards and requirements to deliver projects on time and to budget.

This can include:
  • Supporting the Project Manager and management team to monitor the progress of works and ensure that the development, design, construction, testing and financial targets are met and effect remedial action where required.
  • Ensuring that the technical standards are maintained in all aspects of signalling project work, in order that safe and successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved.
  • Participating in and monitoring the planning and progress of works in relation to timeline and budget and ensuring that the development, design, construction and testing requirements are met and effect remedial action when required. 
  • Being the Project Manager’s engineering representative on projects where required. 
  • Assisting with forecasting the overall engineering resources and key skills necessary for allocated projects in sufficient time to ensure that they can be provided. 
  • Assisting with evaluating the quality and technical accuracy of tenders and make recommendations to obtain the best available commercial award for the Company. 
  • Discharging safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, and Company procedures including the development of the project Safety Plan. 
  • Maintaining continuous communication with contractors and customers in the development and implementation of projects to ensure uniformity of purpose and common targets.
  • Coordinating the engineering activities of sub-contractors. 
  • Reviewing and assessing the engineering aspects of project changes. 
  • Performing duties as directed by senior management from time to time.
  • Providing mentorship for junior staff members within the engineering team and discipline.
  • Completing mandatory training courses as defined by the business.
  • Developing your professional ability through Continuous Professional Development (CPD), supporting others in the business to do the same, participating in a culture of learning and improvement 
  • Demonstrating engineering excellence, through innovative thinking and a willingness to adopt new processes, tools and methods of working, as part of the Siemens LEAN approach.
  • Tracking our safety responsibilities during design with relation to CDM Regulations (2015) and apply safe by design principles.
  • Knowledge or experience of safe working on the railway
  • Awareness of Network Rail standards and design approvals process

Other activities can include:
  • Assisting with the planning of Engineering works, production and submission of Racecards, Lookaheads and SWP applications where required.
  • Review and continual management of the H&S File requirements for the projects.
  • Review and continual management of asset trackers and documentation trackers that support the project needs.
  • Co-ordination of project meetings as required between disciplines. 
  • Management of integrations of multiple packages of works within the project allocation.
  • Management of PE’s assigned to them and within the project team.
  • Support the PEM & /or the CEM where required and as directed.
  • Act as WPM for elements of the deliverables detailed and assigned within the project program.
  • Act as PEM or CEM on medium size projects between 50 and 100 SEU.
  • Representing and providing presentations when required to the project team or client.
  • Providing solutions, efficiencies and initiatives with regards to co-ordination of works, processes and program.

Essential Skills
  • Appreciation of Design, Construction, Testing and Possession Planning.
  • Extensive experience as a Project Engineer in a Rail environment
  • Hold and maintain IRSE Licence 7.8.110F.
  • Maintain IRSE Logbook and meet the criteria set out by the business and the IRSE.
  • PTS Certificate
  • Hold Valid ATW.
  • Hold SWL/COSS Competence
  • A full UK driving license to allow site travel when required.
