Director of Software Engineering - Position Overview

Are you ready to lead a team of highly motivated and talented building technology engineers, developing software products that will help to efficiently operate buildings, reduce energy consumption and create smart buildings?

  • You will lead a highly motivated team of software development managers that lead software development teams in the area of firmware, desktop applications, cloud development, DevOps as well as technical documentation
  • You are responsible to lead a growing team responsible for software architecture, software development and test as well as project leadership.
  • You will part of a team of like-minded leaders responsible for a variety of software products in Siemens Building Technologies’ new Software Hub in downtown Chicago.
  • Collaborate with other Global locations in building the future platform of Building Automation

Responsibilities

  • Act as a role model and evangelist for modern software development practices
  • Responsible for team performance, development and management of internal resources as well as contingency labor
  • Develop and mentor team members to grow stronger and more efficient teams and identify future leaders
  • Collaborate with local and global partners and peers to create transparency, establish direction and generate customer value
  • Identify improvement needs, develop improvement plans and deliver within committed schedules
  • Responsible for executing functional department strategy in collaboration with leads from other teams to support realization of business strategy

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Preferably advanced degree in Computer Science or related field of study
  • At least 10 years of  experience in software development with strong understanding of all aspects of the software development lifecycle
  • 3-5 years of experience in leading teams in a managerial capacity
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Experience working with teams from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Travel required for 5% of time for alignment with global partners

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Hands-on experience with SAFe Framework is a plus
  • Industrial automating / IoT/Cloud  experience will be a plus
