This is role is well-suited to an ambitious professional looking for the next step in your career. As a   Human Factors Engineer – Point of Care you will be responsible for:

  • Being the subject matter expert and technical leader in human factors engineering responsible for lifecycle application of human factors design process, principles, analysis, and usability testing methods.
  • Developing and implementing research methodologies including both qualitative and quantitative analysis plans to test and evaluate new concepts and developmental prototypes used in all phases of product development.
  • Designing and executing tests to simulate product use for the purposes of user need investigation, concept exploration/selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk identification and formal usability validation with intended users.
  • Supporting product definition for new products and platforms by applying “systems thinking”, user centered design and development methodologies.
  • Conducting user and customer research activities to identify user needs/requirements and translating those findings, insights into design solutions.
  • Supporting decision making on product features and functionality by collaborating with various functions such as Regulatory, Marketing, Service, Quality, and other functions within R&D.
  • Supporting design and development of user interfaces working with UX designers, software developers. Supporting creation of technical documentation for products such as User manuals, IFUs and Quick Reference Guides, Training and Marketing Collateral.

·        Risk Analysis | Collaborate with development teams to optimize designs in consideration of use error risk and overall usability, and lead the identification, analysis, and evaluation of use-related risk and development of risk controls.

  • HFE standards & guidelines | Working knowledge of relevant quality regulations (21 CFR Part 820.30), human factors/usability engineering standards (IEC 62366-1, ANSI HE75, ISO 14971), and FDA guidance. Responsible for ensuring compliance to applicable standards and guidance and keeping current on new developments in human factors engineering standards, policies
  • Team player | Develop collaborative working relationships with a range of functions including, but not limited to R&D, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory and Clinical functions.
  • Communicator | Apply persuasion to change the thinking of and/or gain acceptance from various stakeholders, cross-functional teams and drive decision making while maintaining an effective working relationship.

·        Human Factor Engineering project management | Ensure that development plans, processes and activities address human factors engineering process and design requirements in order to maximize product usability and use-related safety. Manages outside suppliers for e.g., participant recruiting and research facilities.

Experience and requirements for success in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Systems Engineering or related field with relevant or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical device or related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for human factors engineering projects, understanding of user centered design, heuristic evaluations, design of experiments, and statistical analysis, HFE requirements, standards.  Understanding of design requirements for development, validation, and verification of medical products.
  • Flexibility to accommodate and work with teams across different time zones and willing to travel up to 20%.
