Simcenter Madymo is the industry leading software for analyzing human safety. The Madymo Active Human Model (AHM) has been developed to simulate the behaviour of vehicle occupants during manoeuvring, and it is an important development in ensuring the safety of occupants, especially in autonomous vehicles.

The Simcenter Active Human model is a kinematic simulation model of an average male, designed in such a way that it actively attempts to maintain its posture when external loads are applied. This is useful for predicting posture, safety, and comfort in a range of situations, such as severe manoeuvring in a vehicle attempting to avoid or minimize a crash.

Limiting safety analysis to the study of mid-sized adult males is of course not representative of the range of diversity in size, shape and gender of vehicle users. Simcenter Madymo are currently developing models that represent female bodies and which can be varied in size according to user wishes, in order to increase the robustness of safety solutions and to ensure that safety can be maximized for as many people as possible. These models have been somewhat validated to date, but the verification of active posture-controlling behaviour has not yet been carried out.

This internship will be run with the SaCoMo (Safety and Comfort Modelling) group based in The Hague, Netherlands.

Scope 

The aims of this internship are to review the current female and size-scalable active human models, to evaluate the validation data and understand existing literature, and to carry out a comprehensive validation of the accuracy of the models. Where necessary and as time allows, the model validation can be improved by optimization and tuning. All updates will be validated against experimental data. This internship will be situated in the SaCoMo group based in The Hague, Netherlands.

- Demonstrate improved behaviour of model against validation

Requirements

The model will need to meet the standards set by the SaCoMo team’s internal quality requirements, and will be reviewed by a domain expert to ensure the quality of the solution against industrial and academic standards. Once completed, the model will be subjected to a user acceptance testing phase to assess the user-friendliness of the solution.
