Siemens Mobility have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Network Architect to join Rail Infrastructure, Communication Information Systems (CIS) team based in Chippenham.

Your role, and what you’ll be doing:

The Lead Network Architect is responsible for assisting in the development of network and security architectures and solutions to support the various applications within the Siemens Mobility portfolio, including but not limited to Railway Signalling & Control Systems, SCADA, Station Information and Security (SISS), and core transmission technologies. Under the guidance of the Network Technical Authority/Principal Network Architect, the Lead Network Architect is an experienced engineering role.

As an experienced engineer, the candidate should have a good understanding of network engineering and one of the application fields in which they specialise. They should also have an interest in bringing modern technologies and approaches to the Rail industry. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with other engineers to develop new solutions to help make the delivery of networking assets faster and more cost-effective. They will have also have a proven track record for safe and reliable delivery in a design or testing role.

What will be my Responsibilities?

  • Support the Networks Technical Authority in the development of new network architectures and solutions for a variety of applications within the Siemens Mobility portfolio
  • Maintain documentation providing guidance on network engineering to the various engineering disciplines within Siemens Mobility
  • Assist the Networks Technical Authority in the assessment of project risk and need for technical oversight
  • Produce and maintain network equipment design and configuration templates
  • Assist in the development of tooling for network design, deployment, and management
  • Take a supporting role in the troubleshooting of networking issues upon escalation from projects

What Qualifications, Skills and Experience do I need?

  • An NQF Level 4 qualification in Communications, Electronic Engineering or similar is required
  • A current ‘associate’ level qualification, or the ability to pursue one, from a major networking vendor is required (e.g. CCNA, JNCIA)
  • Working towards or achieved Professional registration is desirable
  • Familiarity with a variety of network and Network automation and management systems such as Ansible or Netmiko is preferable
  • Experience in Rail or another safety-critical industry is desirable but not essential
  • Familiarity with IT service architectures and technologies is desirable
  • Familiarity with IT support frameworks is desirable
