Siemens has a long history of providing end-to-end electric Solutions for networks metering. We provide specialist and proven design capability, manufacturing, testing and commissioning in dedicated facilities. At our UKAS accredited laboratory we build high quality metering solutions for the precision measurement of energy in large capacity circuits. Our solutions are used by National Grid, major UK power stations, ABB, Alstom, Mitsubishi and others. In addition to our onshore credentials we also meter the energy generated by offshore wind turbines and naturally all of our work is independently verified.

We are recruiting for a Tendering Engineer for our Grid Software business in Rochester. This role will see you provide high-level technical design solutions to meet significant bids requirements and provide compliant and deliverable solutions to customer requirements. 

What part will you play?
  • Produce high level designs in accordance with design standards and customer requirements 
  • Organise the compilation of all aspects related to delivery elements of the tender including; PSS, assembly, commissioning, procured components, HSE (CDM), transport, risk assessments, method statements, delivery timescales, costing, etc 
  • Work with Sales and Project Delivery to design and engineer detailed solutions to satisfy specific bid requirements 
  • Provide technical and commercial evaluation of significant bids and Invitation to Tenders’ to ensure proposals are aligned with customer requirements, industry standards and Siemens policies and procedures 
  • Establish and manage standardised designs for future work 
  • Provide quality assurance to the bid process 
  • Ensure all bid clarifications are compiled and sent to the customer for action, and incoming clarification requests are assessed and responded to in a timely manner. 
  • Manage the PSS process involving significant bids and facilitate the threat and risk assessments 
  • Find opportunities to provide cyber security as an added new value/upsell to customers 
  • Contribute to review of customers’ ‘Terms & Conditions’ and work with Legal, Sales etc to get issues resolved 
  • Contribute to the handover process; from bid to delivery 
  • Carry out periodic design reviews of medium to large bids to ensure the bids are financially viable for Siemens 
  • Collaborate with customers to define the products, components and systems to be used for projects and their concrete characteristics. 
  • Liaise with Project Delivery team to establish the technical solutions and ensure they deliver the required 
  • Work with Project Delivery to manage customer expectations with respect to ‘change requests’ i.e., work with project engineer to understand the change request and manage liaison with the customer etc 
  • Work with key suppliers to coordinate procurement/logistics to ensure high quality products and services are provided competitively. 
  • Advise the Sales, Project Delivery & Business Support teams as appropriate 
What does it take to be successful in this role?
  • Electrical engineering technical background required (electrical measurements advantageous) 
  • Previous experience working in technical sales environment and engaging directly with customers, with the ability to build positive customer relationships 
  • Good knowledge of power/energy industry 
  • Good knowledge of Information security and Cybersecurity 
  • A basic understanding of the components within commercial/pricing models. 
  • Ability to interpret and use project planning software 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Product Knowledge would be beneficial
