Position Overview:
  • The EHS Professional is responsible for the Environmental, Health and Safety Management system at the Siemens New Kensington, PA manufacturing facility.
  • The EHS professional is encouraged to lead and/or support activities to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses, protect the environment and assure compliance with EHS laws and regulations.
  • The EHS Professional is encouraged to support and promote Healthy and Safe @ Siemens initiatives and the companies long term strategy for sustainability, energy efficiency and waste reduction.
  • The position requirement is on-site at the New Kensington, PA manufacturing facility.
  • The position reports to the Operations Manager in New Kensington, PA.
Responsibilities / Tasks include:
  • Advocate for a Healthy at Siemens (Zero Harm) safety culture that protects the safety of Siemens’ employees, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Lead (responsible for) the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications of our Integrated Management System.
  • Establish strategy initiatives for continual improvement of EHS management system. Identify long term strategic action plans.
  • Regularly conduct and/or coordinate safety training for Siemens employees and maintain employee safety training database.
  • Provide support to the design of new product and work closely with the onsite Research and Development team.
  • Support accident investigation process and root cause analysis including tracking and record-keeping requirements.
  • Support the contractor pre-qualification process and own the onsite contractor safety program.
  • Maintain and improve safe work standards and practices.
  • Support the factory 5S program together with the production managers and manufacturing engineering.
  • Regularly conduct site safety assessments/audits including tracking and reporting corrective action status.
  • Be a visible presence advocating for the safety of Siemens engineering, project managers, site manager, commissioning, operations, and maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain EHS regulatory compliance activities, including preparing and submitting EHS regulatory reports and working with regulatory agency personnel.
  • Provide support for the management of worker’s compensation claims and return-to-work program.
  • Provide technical guidance to employees regarding environmental, health and safety related issues or concerns, and regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise occupational safety/environmental related Federal, State, and Local regulatory changes and impacting the business, both from a facility and customer relations standpoint, and communicate those to management. When vital, coordinate business response and or comments to regulatory changes.
  • Collaborate with Siemens legal on any EHS activities with regulatory agencies, employees, and outside legal counsel on behalf of business when required.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • BS/BA in related subject area (EHS), or advanced degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in a technical EHS role focusing on Safety and Environmental Compliance
  • Experience with high-risk operations in a manufacturing environment
  • Validated understanding of EPA and OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E and industry EHS standards
  • Proven track record to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards
  • Validated experience working on cross-functional teams and leading EHS targets and objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
  • Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong writing capabilities, especially with writing clear, concise EHS procedures
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks for different business units and work independently with little supervision.
  • Must be able to work with all levels of the organization
  • Limited travel
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) certification, or equivalent
  • Experience working with ISO 14001, ISO 45001 Management System Standards highly preferred
  • Proven track record of influencing, negotiating, and persuading employees at all levels
  • Understanding of the importance Mental Health in the Workplace and the impacts on the work force (positive and negative)
