We seek to fill a position in the Rail Asset Management & Performance Center team on the East Coast or Midwest of the United States of America. We delivered several Diesel Electric Locomotives, which feature the new Cummins QSK95 diesel engine, to its customers nationwide, operating on short and long-distance passenger service routes. In this field, we are looking for an experienced railroad person who will professionally support our customers.

The Diesel Engine Expert will assist the Customer Service Department with providing details on customer-related inquiries, maintenance planning, and execution, advising and training our field service team and customers in all matters of our diesel engine systems in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient way.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Gives maintenance support for planned and unplanned maintenance activities on the SIEMENS diesel locomotives (Charger), which are supported in our service contracts.
  • Supports troubleshooting efforts in person and remotely for failure remedy and Root Cause Analysis across all service contracts and locations.
  • Reliability tracking and efforts to improve reliability improvements. Participate in weekly fault review meetings regarding engine faults or failure, remotely downloaded daily for all fleets.
  • Visit all our service sites that support Diesel Locomotives (CHARGER) to evaluate the site's operations, maintenance practices, and handling and storage of diesel engine-related materials.
  • Support the training efforts to train the SIEMENS Field Service technical team to become diesel engine maintenance experts.
  • Develop and implement plans to ensure methods of operation are reviewed and continuously improved to achieve effective outcomes for the company, customer, and partners.
  • Responsible for developing maintenance solutions to expand and solidify commercial arrangements.
  • Communicate with customers about recertification/recovery strategy, work site, parts availability, development, the timing for service return, and monitoring and progress status.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Associate degree in an engineering subject area. Cummins engine certification is helpful.
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in Diesel Engines (Cummins QSK-95 or similar preferred)
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Maintenance Management Systems such as Maximo, JD Edwards, SAP, Cormap
  • Ability to navigate through schematics and mechanical/pneumatic manuals to aid in troubleshooting/repairs.
  • Required travel: 50%
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • More than five years of experience in railway field operations.
  • Confirmed skills with all Microsoft Office (including Excel/Word/Access/​PowerPoint) products
  • Background or formal training in Quality tools, e.g., six sigma.
  • Knowledge of Railroad Regulatory requirements. Ideally will have a background in rolling stock maintenance, commissioning, or other rail-related experience with an appreciation of mechanical and software troubleshooting skills.
