Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Fleet technical engineer to join us at Siemens mobility. This is a fantastic permanent full-time opportunity. This will either be based a our Horsey depot or Crawley depot.

About your role

As the Technical engineer you are responsible for investigation and resolution of technical, product safety and reliability issues associated with the platform. Ensuring the fleets continue to operate in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner for our customers by continuing to use the latest digital, engineering and maintenance techniques to maximise the fleet reliability and availability levels. Provide technical engineering capability at the local depot level for the assigned platform. Generate solutions for identified technical issues and customer variation enquiries. Provide up to date maintenance instructions by responding to technical documentation enquiries and provide technical guidance to the depot production teams and/or customers.

What are your responsibilities?


  • Support the FDM/SDM and their Teams, providing technical engineering capability for the assigned fleets.
  • Complete engineering issues and tasks allocated.
  • Support discussions with suppliers as required to exchange technical failure information and potential solutions.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of any safety, technical, or reliability issues relating to the fleet.
  • Develop and document solutions to address and improve safety, reliability and availability. • Ensure train software is up to date and configuration status is known to Siemens Product Security requirements.
  • Develop and document cost effective solutions to address and improve product safety, reliability, and availability in line with relevant standards.
  • Produce engineering change control documentation for trials and modifications to implement solutions and eradicate technical problems identified.
  • Liaise with production to feedback and cascade knowledge to the production teams, author technical briefs as required.
  • Liaise with Innovation and Platform Management Team and support where applicable.
  • Liaise with the training department to develop training material and support training where applicable.
  • Assist other team members with the development of technical skills through technical coaching.
  • Provide cover for the Fleet Technical Manager in absence of Senior Fleet Technical Engineer.
  • Support monitoring of product performance and identify technical and maintenance opportunities to improve reliability and availability.
  • Lead the fleet reliability improvement planning and implementation.
  • Implement safe systems and controls within your area of responsibility
  • Understand, implement and comply with the Siemens Rolling Stock EHS policies

What Qualifications, Experience & Technical Know-How do I need?


  • ONC / HNC qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience in a railway / rolling stock environment
  • Good technical knowledge of the relevant rolling stock platform • Knowledge of railway maintenance techniques and procedures.
  • Demonstrate railway systems knowledge including reading mechanical and electrical drawings, systematic fault finding and problem identification.
  • Ability to analyse train borne event and fault diagnostic systems • Good knowledge of IT systems and software
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral • Excellent organisational and planning skills • Excellent customer service skills
