This internship position is part of our Power Technologies International (PTI) group. PTI is our trusted advisor that takes a holistic approach, providing power system technical consulting, energy market business advisory, combined with simulation software solutions. Join us in our mission to enable grid operators, along with industry and infrastructure companies, to accelerate and secure this energy transition in a sustainable and profitable way.

As a Technical Consultant Intern for Transmission & Distribution (T&D), you will work on exciting topics, including the application of power systems planning principles, simulation and analysis of power system steady state and dynamic behavior, development of mathematical models for reliability assessment of electrical networks, and delivery of on-site technical consulting/training services for both Transmission and Distribution levels. Furthermore, you will:

  • Apply transmission and/or distribution power system model topology changes 
  • Analyze transmission and/or distribution power systems through steady state, short circuit, or transient stability studies
  • Conduct research on the processes and guidelines for load and generation interconnections to the power grid & new challenges for the future of the grid
  • Participate in both internal and external trainings
  • Be mentored by PTI power systems experts to optimize the processes & power system studies
  • Prepare weekly status reports on all project activities
  • Produce draft reports and presentations with study results for review by supervisors

Be part of our team, here's what's needed:

Pursuit of a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Power Systems Engineering with practical concentration in power system analysis. Candidate should have taken courses pertaining to distribution or transmission systems, planning or operations with experience analyzing power flow, transient stability, and electromagnetic transients. Programming skills are preferred.

  • Transmission Power System Simulation Software: PSS®E, PSS®SINCAL, PSLF or PowerWorld is a plus
  • Distribution Power System Simulation Software: CYME, Synergi, Milsoft or OpenDSS/ GridLAB-D
  • Programming languages: Python, C#, and VBA
  • Microsoft utility applications

This position allows remote work from within the US.
