Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
Lightworks now form the Centre of Excellence for Visualization inside the Siemens Digital Industries Software division. With specialisms in 3D graphics, ray tracing, virtual reality, games engines and UI, the Lightworks team supports advanced visualisation usage across the world-leading Siemens product design software range and directly with end users.
What we’re looking for
As someone who’s opted for a placement within their degree course, you will be looking to start your career as a Software Engineer within visualisation for 3D CAD software. Your degree must contain a high level of technical content preferably within engineering or computer science. This role is paid, available for one year, and offers a fantastic opportunity to work complex software projects in an exciting and varied enterprise environment for industry leading customers.

What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Software Development Manager you will be working in a small, Agile development team. It is expected that the candidate will acquire a broad understanding of our products, their domains, and their application; have the confidence to express ideas as part of a creative software team; have a genuine interest in technological trends; have the ability to meet deadlines; to think creatively about solutions to complex technical problems; and be constantly striving to enhance the team’s results and the quality of the software.

- Knowledge of object-orientated software development
- An inquisitive and methodical approach with good attention to detail
- Strong analysis, design and problem-solving ability
- Enthusiasm for continuous learning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work in 3D
- Knowledge of software engineering principles and development processes
- A passion for creating high-quality software
A knowledge of any of the following would be desirable:
- Agile software development
- 3D geometry
- 3D CAD systems
