About the job

The Contract Manager plays a critical role in supporting the management and organisation of Brightly’s legal operations by effective and efficient development and implementation of operational end-to-end processes, systems and services related to legal operations globally. As a Brightly legal team member, each member is committed to be a best-in-class legal team and trusted, business partner providing practical, solutions oriented, counsel, so that our stakeholders can achieve their business goals. We play an important role in protecting Brightly IP and helping to manage the business’ enterprise risk.  The majority of the role will be remote, with occasional travel to our Chatham office.

What you’ll be doing

Contracts are an essential part of any business and contract management and legal operations are the critical component of overseeing all elements of a Brightly’s legal functions.  The role will include, but not be limited to:

  • Manage and organise end-to-end processes, systems and services related to legal operations globally with focus on UK, Canada and Australian support.  This includes coordination of activities to ensure that business objectives are achieved, liaison with management, assist in development of strategic plans for operational activity, and implement and manage operation plans.  This position supports and monitors performance, reports on status and implements improvements.  When new activities are implemented, it will build training plans for any new systems, policies, and updates to current operations.
  • Communication –visible understanding of the departments and people involved in a contracting process, between clients, vendors, third parties and other stakeholders.  Displays an ability to understand and address the concerns and motivations of each stakeholder with an ability to reach amicable decisions in the interest of all parties.
  • Compliance – understand compliance with applicable laws and regulations, comply with internal controls and abide by applicable data privacy requirements, by explaining contract requirements, changing situations or crises, and possesses an ability to amend or clarify contract requirements.
  • Negotiate – with prospective subscribers about terms of use and mitigate the company’s risks. Clearly explain contract terminology to clients and other interested parties in simple, everyday language and scenarios.
  • Frequently communicates key information to team members to empower them in their work. Serve as the escalation point for other Brightly legal team members to settle and mitigate negotiations within defined parameters.
  • Create and manage repeatable template agreements to support continuing growth and continuity for Brightly in line with its risk profile, compliance obligations and operation practices.
  • Works to mitigate and remove obstacles for the team to maintain high levels of quality and performance.  Identify blockers, risks, issues and escalate any that require further assistance for removal.
  • Record Management – define and establish the Brightly legal team’s thorough and substantial records of all documents and data attached to any contracts, set standards for maintaining an audit trail and document all contractual risks.
  • Develop Policies for Contract Management and Compliance – drive the company’s scalability and strategic contract growth proactively by drafting and adapting relevant systems, processes or policies that support global compliance and growth.
  • Risk Management – Must be adept at-risk management; be sure that all third parties and vendors are assessed properly to be sure that contracts are fair, accurate and avoid disproportionate liability and costly legal disputes.
  • Reporting – implement best practices and improve workflows in the contract management process where continual contract reporting is required.
  • Embrace technology and automation – to streamline the overall practices and procedures of contract lifecycle management to simplify the contract management process, allow for scalability and changing compliance obligations.
