Quality Internship- Rail Infrastructure

Job Description

Siemens Mobility US is looking for aspiring engineers to come aboard for a 10–12-week internship journey where they will get exposure to what happens behind the scenes to make the rail world go round.  

During your summer journey with us, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Quality Department where you will learn factory processes and manufacturing techniques that bring designs to reality. You will experience the value of working in a cross functional team environment to solve problems and drive continual improvement with the support and supervision of our Quality Team.

A little bit about us 

Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people and goods by rail – including rolling stock, rail automation, rail electrification, and service. We craft and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems.  


The Quality team ensures the high-quality standards are met through every step of the process to design, build, and deliver products for Automated Train Control. Our team validates designs through rigorous design reviews, audits suppliers, conducts inspections in the factories, and facilities problem solving with a cross functional team. 

What you will do…  

This position will work with Quality Specialists in the areas of factory product quality and process quality at our two locations in the Waterfront complex, Homestead, Pa. 

Assist in product inspections for incoming parts and system assemblies 

Perform Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies to determine areas of improvement in manufacturing processes 

Support problem solving investigations for quality issues 

Conduct process audits in factory or functional areas, Quality, Procurement, Engineering 

Incorporate academic knowledge into solutions to real world problems. 

Critical Capabilities: 

Problem solving 

Good technical writing skills 

Collaborative mindset 

Ability to work independently as needed 

Basic Qualifications:  

Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university 

Legal authorization to work in the US is required 

Must reside or go to school near internship location The Waterfront in Homestead, Pa.  

Preferred Qualifications 

Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 

Previous internship experience or relevant school projects 

Strong communication skills – verbal and written 

Ability to work on a team 

Interest in learning about the rail industry – project management, customer service operations, manufacturing, etc.
