Specimen Acquisition performs a variety of tasks supporting the human sample needs for Research and Development, Manufacturing, and Customer Services activities in Diagnostics (LD/POC) and covers multiple site needs. Tasks include but are not limited to specimen management, department training, clinical contract management, clinical supplier management, biobank management and Azure DevOps project management.
This is a role well suited to an ambitious professional, looking for the next step in their career. As the Director, Specimen Acquisitions, you will be responsible for:
- Manage staff of 3-5 direct reports
- Sources and establishes relationships with new specimen vendors and testing laboratories
- Directs the evaluation and selection of vendors (commercial or HCOs) and negotiates contract details including work steps and pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area
- Interprets federal policies and regulations and educates staff and administration about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of the company
- Directs and implements policy and program modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
- Develops and administers an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with company policies and procedures
- Develops cost savings objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates contracts that range from routine to complex in nature
- Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the functional area consistent with Company goals and objectives
- Directs the development of related automated systems to support the function; determines office policies and procedures for use of automated systems
- Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature

- Technical background in human sample management, Biobank experience a plus

Required skills to have for the success of this role
- Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Sciences or related field, MBA a plus
- 5 years of experience in clinical or laboratory operations preferred
- 5 years of experience managing a team of three or more staff, preferred
- Ability to travel up to 20% monthly
The pay range for this position in NYC or Westchester County, NY is $180,608 - $248,336 annually; however, the base pay offered to any candidate residing in NYC or Westchester County, NY may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
