Siemens US Talent Acquisition : Test Engineer
Position Overview
Siemens Industrial Automation Center (SIAC) located in Johnson City, TN, is a design center for industrial automation products sold in a world-wide market. Market access is critical to business success and the regulatory complexity is evolving with many national and international regulatory standards and regulations. Industrial automation products incorporate wide a range of low voltage circuit designs and must withstand the industrial environment in which they operate. SIAC is seeking a Test Engineer to perform a wide range of testing within our in house accredited testing laboratory. In this role you must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, work collaboratively in team environment, and a good understanding of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform EMI (electromagnetic immunity) tests according to well-known standards and analyze, document and report results
- Provide guidance to project leaders and engineers regarding test and design constraints to ensure the product satisfies the various national and international regulations
- Develop and perform functional verification testing to verify product specification
- Develop, verify, and document test systems and configurations required to represent the automation system and its intended environment
- Develop and perform validation strategies to ensure correct test equipment operation
- Participate and contribute to the accreditation requirements (ISO/IEC 17025) and continuous process improvements supporting the quality management system
- Participate and contribute to both internal and external audits of the quality management system
- Perform and develop quality activities necessary to ensure the validity of test results
- Understanding and interpretation of a wide range of IEC standards related to EMC, Safety, climatic, and mechanical environments
- Excellent trouble shooting skills
- Ability to interact with all levels of personnel internally and externally
- Review technical publications and operating instructions to ensure compliance for the intended operating environment
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related hardware technical discipline
- 2 plus years experience in hardware development or testing in an Engineering or Laboratory environment
- Good work-ethic and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and results-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Strong quality orientation with the ability to improve existing processes and approaches
- Demonstrates good interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
- 5% domestic or international travel
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- EMI testing
- 2+ years experience in an accredited testing laboratory
- Proficient operation of spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, temperature/humidity measuring devices
- Knowledge of various national and international standards/approvals applicable to industrial automation products such as CE, UKCA, UL, FM, ATEX, IECEx, UKEx, and a variety of Marine societies
