Job Description

Position Overview

SIMATIC AX brings engineering to the IT-native customer in the cloud and on Windows and Linux desktop. Industrial automation has traditionally targeted individuals with a more traditional engineering background by providing programming tools like ladder logic, etc. SIMATIC AX targets individuals with a more software development background by providing programming tools that are closer to modern programming languages. The Johnson City team is currently responsible for communications and diagnostic components in the AX environment. The Product Owner will help drive the introduction into the US market. This position will be based out of Johnson City, TN but remoting is possible. Direct reporting will be into this organization, but close coordination with the Chief Product Owner in Germany is required for success.


  • Team player within the global product owner community working closely with global product owner team. AX is a landscape that needs overall fit to the customer.
  • Must have strong ownership mentality to drive end-to-end product responsibility with strong quality awareness and direct experience with customers, such as sales.
  • This is a leadership role: Together with the scrum master you act as a leader and represent of the market to the team(s).

Globally responsible for a part of the overall AX engineering portfolio.

  • Determine what the customers are going to want before they want it.
  • Act as an entrepreneur and test the product vision in close exchange with the customers to achieve the greatest possible customer benefit.
  • Determine customer needs by detailing personas, jobs-to-be-done, pains & gains, value propositions and user journeys in co-creation and piloting with our customers.
  • Work with at least one agile team where you own the product including prioritization over the complete lifecycle.
  • Transform customer requirements into an actionable backlog and refine this with your scrum team(s).

Develop adoption of AX within Americas with focus on the US market.

  • Drive AX to be engaged in an appropriate amount of co-creation and piloting activities within the US.
  • Act with the mindset of a “key account manager” for these AX co-creation and piloting activities within Americas.
  • Drive AX go to market within Americas by ensure fit of business model and customer journey including service/support of AX.
  • Align all of this with the respective regions, regional management, and global sales organization.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Education: BS degree 
  • 1 to 5 years of direct experience in working with end customers (This can be, but not limited to, sales, marketing, application engineering, etc.)
  • 1 to 5 years experience with defining requirements from customers 
  • Hands on proficiency with product development teams in refining requirements 
  • Occasional travel required (5% to 10% domestic and international)
  • Excellent work ethic and attention to detail; self-motivated
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
